Right yet again we seem to have ended up with a thread about dogs this time not what they deposit. I was flying down at the local field in the snow. With the amount of snow we've had theres plenty of people with dogs down there which to be honest I dont mind greatly. I normally have the trouble that the dogs will chase the kite in the air and run back and forth as the kite moves then when it gets near the floor they scatter as tehy relise the size. I was flying with the norm (Dogs chasing it in the air) When I decided i fancied a break so bought the kite down to low level to give the dogs a chance to move but one of them started jumping for it. As it hit the floor the dog bit it and trampled the thing and started taking it back to the owner of the dog. The owner told the dog to put it down which it didnt do so he starts ripping the thing out of the dogs mouth. He got the kite out and being at the other end of the lines he said just put it back up before she gets lose again. So I pull and it relaunches and teh whole thing starts again until adventuly my arms can take it no longer and I just have to land it. The dog yet again jumps on it so whilst the owner tried to get it off I undid the lines and bunged it in my bag. Moan over but why cant some people just take in to consideration that we can get tired and just hold the dog while I get sorted.

a dog whent to pee on my buggy once but luckly i was near and managed to scare it of and did the owner care what it's dog was trying to do? no. i don't mind having dogs near me when i kte, i some times take my own dog but he is allways on a lead and under control, i only get anoyed when the owner dosn't care what there dog dose and the dog is out of control. but i get my pay back. land the kite keep a bit of tenstion in the lines and just wait for the dog to trip up. no, im only jokeing, i don't do that i like animals to much.

people don't understand kites and flying them at all.....at the end of last summer i was flying at the beach on a quiet low wind day- i was flying a speed 13metre, and this dog had been chasing the kite backwards and forwards for a while , with the owners not calling it back, while i was struggling to keep the kite up at times cause the wind was low, and at one point the kite was about 4 feet off the floor - the dog jumps up and gives the kite a good bite and lets go....i put the kite down and run to inspect it , as the owners casually wander off - i called em back while i check the kite.....luckerly no damage:)

people can be just as bad. once a kid and his mother came and stood right in front of me. the kid ran straight out in front of me and his mother folwed him and said "OOO... look at that" did they not see i was speeding straight towards them with no brakes and high tension lines which would leave them with horibble scarce on there faces

agrrrrr.......

i managed to miss them luckly. but only just

I had a similar occurance on the same day, There were some people trying to make snow balls when they had an entire feild tehy decided that instead of walking around where io was flying my kite or going else where walked right under neath it so i made a low swoop while they where on there back but beyond the length of my lines and never saw them again walking dead infront of me

Hope the old lady didn't hurt herself. You could be in trouble for tripping her up whether it was your fault or not.

I fortunately don't have dogs or moaning old ladies where I buggy but do meet a few other desert dwellers from time to time and I live in harmony with them all.

I think a better approach would have been to take off your helmet, go across and introduce yourself as the kite moron and agree with her comments, butter her up with lots of flattery (even old ladies can't resist that). Offer her a go but she will decline what with her thinking it's dangerous and all. Even offer her cup of tea or coffee that you might have in a flask to keep out the cold weather you are currently having.

I would have turned her into my friend or at least tried so that when she meets her friends & family in the future, she will say how she met some nice young lads flying their kites on the beach or wherever.

The old lady might have friends/family in places you didn't think about. I believe there are a lot of unfair restrictions on kiters in the UK and incidents like the one you had with this old bag doesn't help for the future of kiting in your country.

Keep it in mind that most people in this world are OK if you communicate with them well enough. Sure, bad things happen & you can't win them all over but I think you will find that it's worth trying. If you don't succeed, then you've lost nothing.

Personally, I would have enjoyed the challenge of turning the moaning old woman into someone that would go about her life in future expounding the positive virtues of kiters.

You have to admit that it would have been a more positive step than laughing at her when she tripped over your lines.
