Oh well been landboarding a bit last year - and really getting into all this powerkiting, and i love it. BUT as i live in Denmark its not like we have any deserts, dry lakes or large flat paddocks - what we do have is quite a lot of water - 2 hours drive tops gets me to spots that work in virtually any direction. So supplying landboarding with water based kitesports seems like a good idea :)

While i have a Access right now and been flying around 50-60 hours with in (landboarding/snowkite) i think i do understand the dynamics quite well, but the Access is no good on the water, so im looking for a waterfriendly kite, but the budget are quite low :(

Ive been offered a Best Waroo 9 meter 2006 - but will that be a good choice for a 75 kg beginner like me? Or do you have any other models that you would recommend me instead?

Im solely looking second hand - and i guess pricing wouldt help much :)

Hi M,

I recently made a similar decision to yours for the same reason, not many good land sites near home but heaps of good water ones :)

I can't comment on the Best Waroo as I'm new to tube kites as well, but unless you are in a very windy area I can imagine a 9m kite may be to small for you? I'm a bit over 60 kg's and I'm flying an 11m '07 Sonic, and that is perfect for me in the 'good' wind range for learning, roughly 10 to 20 knots.

This thread here has heaps of information on buying older models, particularly look at the links which Goz included to reviews on 2008, 2009 kites:

Good luck with it :good:

Yea ive been reading both you and plummet's adventures :)

Oh the wind range would normally be around 7 ms (Around 13 knots) - so yea it might just be a bit too small for me. Ill have a look at the link, thx for the response :)

for 13 knots you need a BIG kite. look for 13m or there abouts.

Hmm that sounds a little too much compared what the locals say/use :)

Any thoughts on the Royal Era 10 meter 2008 btw? Good/bad beginner kite?

i have an 11m and 142 board and i can get up and plane and go down wind in 13knots and thats it. I cannot stay up wind. if infact your wind is that low you need a massive kite. ps i'm 80kg.

i was out yesterday in 13knots and the only people staying up wind was dudes on massive kites. 17m zephur, 15m something else. oh and they were on big directional surfboard style boards.

approximatly this is my geuss of kite sizes for wind speeds.... obviously its hugely dependant on conditions, weight of rider, board, water conditions, chop, flat swell, kite type and experience.

12-20 knots 13m sle

16-25 knots 11m sle

20-30 knots 9m sle

25-35 knots 7m sle.

I guess i was a bit unclear - the 7 ms will be the very low end of the scale... Mostly winds are round 9-12 ms (17-23knots) during summertime where i live :)

the 7 ms will be during the beginning until ive build up some confidence on both the kite and the board :)

But i guess i should go for 10 or 11 instead of a 9 meter :)

i think an 11 is a good do it all size and fits right in your common wind range.

13knots is not enough wind to learn to kitesurf. you need power to get up and plane. if its not windy enough you will find it really hard. a clean 17 knots is probably ideal.

but for sure get the new kite and flying it in light winds first to get used to it. use it to landboarding/buggying if your already good at that.

then dive into the water and try your hand at body dragging. once you can drag upwind your ready to try water starts.

sorry i have no experience with the kite you talk about.

So been keyboard-surfing a bit - and it seems i can get my hands on a 2009 Takoon Furia2 11 meter - kinda cheap. Does anybody have any comments on that kite?

And thx a bunch for all the tips s far :)
