CeeJay Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 http://www.oceanextremesports.com/catalog/ocean-rodeo-gojoe-2009-stock-till-p-497.html Anyone had any experience with these?? Board leashes are seen as a no-no and this looks like a pretty (or not so pretty) good alternative??? Quote
OceanRodeo Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 There was a post a bit back. They work a treat especially in waves. It comes down to how much you value style over the loss of a board Quote
fatbobfossil Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 There was a thread on kiteboarder on this subject not so long ago. If you want one Ben from oceanrodeokites.co.uk can sort you one. Quote
waterbaby Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 i used a coil leash was fine never hit me once.idont use it now but it was realy good when i was learnig Quote
CeeJay Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Ive heard some pretty bad horror stories about leashes even the "safer" reel types so really don't feel i want to go there. Ive been landboarding for ages so not at what you would call a normal beginners level and was jumping pretty much as soon as I was up and planing. Other skills like body dragging are not as developped as they would be if i'd started my kiting originally on the water and I fear if i start going bigger and more downwind on jumps I could end up a long way from the board without the skills to get back to it. I'm well into my 30's now so don't really give a rats a$$ if it doesn't look great Quote
Steiner Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Awsome piece of kit, there are some conditions where upwind body dragging is almostimpossible like in big waves or on an out going tide where the wind is pretty much on-shore. Saves a lot of time, and make the board really visable, it doesn't always come straight bak to you, but it is a snip to see and usually you have to only body drag cross wind. Don't actualy care what it looks like, can't afford to replace my board. wouldnt put a leash on my board if you paid me - one way ticket to the hospital. Quote
waterbaby Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 its got to get in the way???body dragging is a must once u hav been showed once u will get realy easy.does it not send u blance every were when u jump? Quote
kevob Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 put one on your helmet then you will always be the right way up if you fall in and as long as the wind is onshore you will slowly drift in Quote

From the research i've done so far evidently not, theres a few vids on youtube too and it doesnt seem to get in the way. Body dragging.... what ive been doing is putting the kite to one side of the window one hand on the bar the other used as a rudder in the water. The rest of the sentance i didn't understand hahaha Quote
smegg1 Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Local guy uses one, and we seem to have a bit of an OR thing going on. Dpes look a bit strange but never seems to get in his way that I would consider looking at one myself. Quote

Never gets in the way, and I have been shown ow to body drag properly and am more than proficient at it, but there are situations where it will simply not help especially if there is a strong tide going against the wind. stueyboy Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Someone up here at hunstanton has one and I asked him about it. He said that he had lost two boards because of it when it blew away too quickly from him. He doesn't use them any more Quote
spooky Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 So guess he was flying in off shore winds?? Jon Quote
Ally Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 GoJoes are only allowed if you also have kite pants, seaspecs and a shackle on your spreader bar. Quote
CeeJay Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Kite pants, nah!!! gimp suit and proud!! although i do have a pair of seaspecs But at 20 i guess you're still worried about whether ya penis is big enough Quote
crut Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 I'd just learn to body drag all proper like. No need for a leash then Quote
CeeJay Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Why spend a session "IN" the water without a board learning to body drag when i can be ripping it up "ON" top of it?? But seriously, i get little enough time as it is on the water and I want to maximise the time I do have. Body dragging skills will come with time but also as already mentioned there are times when its not feasible with the wind and wave conditions. The GoJoe can be easily removed for those times when in shallow or flat water so as long as it does what it says on the tin then wheres the harm? Barring the offshore wind scenario is there any other negative points?? Quote
Ally Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 if you don't want to lose your board get bindings. problem solved. Quote
CeeJay Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 if you don't want to lose your board get bindings. problem solved. hmmm, wake style? not a bad idea.... Quote

Good idea if you have nice flat water and a board with a neon sign on it! Quote
crut Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Why spend a session "IN" the water without a board learning to body drag when i can be ripping it up "ON" top of it?? Yeah, you're right! Why spend a single session learning to body drag properly so you can always get your board! [by the way, you will still be body dragging to your board with this contraption] Quote
