evoman76 Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Brought myself a board and 3.6m HQ beamer on handles two years ago after doing a landboarding course and never got on with the kite, so kind of gave up. But then last week brought a 3.5m rage with a bar and went out saturday and had so much fun. Even managed to baord back to were I started from !! Also managed to get dragged around on the ground and go flying a bit, but well worth it !! Only issue I had is there is no real control over the power, on handles I could always apply a bit of break, but on the bar I couldn't do anything. I have to say I much prefered flying on the bar, but its just the power issue, is there anyway around this on the rage ? Quote
Big Dog Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Not really, these kites were designed on handles as a 4 line kite. They fly well giving you full control on handles because all four lines are available to use for controlling the kite. On a bar, your brake lines are slack, rendering them useless for general flying, and you only have the top two lines for all the control. Making the kite almost a 2 line kite. Bars are nice, but on these kites there is a compromise to be made Quote
heres jonny Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 there isnt realy any possible way you could change the flying characteristics when flying on a bar...basically, its fly on handles and have full control cos this is how they were designed to be flown, or fly on a bar, which is prefectly acceptable and safe, but lose on a touch of the performance. ...unless you get a de power, which is really the way forward when landboarding... jon Quote
hankster Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 what about putting the bar on a crossover system so when you inituate a turn a bit of brake is added on the opposite brake so you don't lose much control. Quote
Irishguy1599968767 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I started kiting & boarding with handles and loved the control the handles gave. As the advice above I moved to depower (sabre2) and am really enjoying it - its a bit of a change from handles but it makes life so much easier and enjoyable - can spend much longer out and makes gustier conditions easier. freefall Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Get a peter lynn, doesnt matter which one. I was going crusing on a landboard within an hour on a 12m phantom. Theres some cheap venoms in the for sale section. Big kites are so much easier to learn with, more constant power, slower turning therefor safer and more rewarding in opinion. Quote
C4C Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 handles for foils all the way... bars just dont offer the control u need... Quote
andrewjohn Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 You could use an older Ozone four line bar that was made for the Samuari's. This has a trimmer on it so you can put in some break if you want to. Might be a couple on flea bay at the mo I think. Quote
TJ_17 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Stick with the handles on a fixed bridle kite ...... way more control than a bar! Quote
janjachnik Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 I vote for handles, i bought a bar to use with my blade but i am back on handles now. I occasionaly use the bar if i am using my harness as i dont have a strop for my handles yet. The lack of control is annoying if you are wanting to work the kite a lot, however being able to use 1 hand on the bar is very useful. Quote
evoman76 Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Thanks for all the comments, would love to go de powerable but funds won't let me at the moment. I did like the extra control of the handles but prefered flying on the bar, might stick with it for now and keep trying to improve my flying and boarding !! Quote
hankster Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 or another way you can use a bar and not lose much control is use a c-quad or quadrifoil bar bar which i also use far more control than a normal bar but takes a while to get use too. Quote
