ptben Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Just wondering who the two kiters were off Penmaenmawr on Tuesday afternoon, both on red Ions? Quote
jamesthebat Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 That would be me and my mate Pete on the ions. There were 2 others a bit further downwind. Quote
Noo Noo Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I know that beach and have often wondered what it's like. looks like there's potential How was it Quote
jamesthebat Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 For the wind directions it works on there are better beaches around. Conwy & westshore As there isnt much light left in the evenings & its low tide around 5ish it is easy for us to pop down the road than go to llandudno and walk out to the sea. It works best from NW through to NE but can be kited on a West but it is mega gusty as the wind comes off the headland. Quote
ptben Posted October 16, 2008 Author Report Posted October 16, 2008 I moved to Pen from Rhosneigr last November and apart from Tommy @ Session1 I don't know many local kiters. I've also wondered about just walking down to the beach but I'm not a fan of kiting alone. It would be good to get to know a few more locals. Quote
jamesthebat Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Thats depressing for you, moving from Rhosneigr to Penmaenmawr! I will pm you my mobile number. Agree would be good to meet more people. Leaving work in a min and going straight to the beach (trying to get a few more evening sessions in before the clocks go back) will either be WShore, Conwy or Pen depending on wind and tides. Quote
session1 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Yeh, I'd be right depressed. I heard that only scum bags live in Pen... Quote
ptben Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Easy, that's a little strong for Friday morning Quote
jamesthebat Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Whoa Tommy obviously you've never been to Pen, ive lived there all my life and ill have you know its not "only scum bags" that live in Pen! We've got drug dealers, drug addicts, pimps, hookers (well we did have till they got busted, think PTben lives across the road!), bent coppers, hoodies, hoodlums. You name it we got it! Quote

Quote

jamesthebat Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 hi avenging. I was one of the hoodie scumbags as well, its a rights of passage thing we've all been there but still good to take the piss. Me and the other lads all started the landboard route so can give you a few pointers. There are another 2lads from Dwygy that kitesurf that dont post on here, and another that is just getting into landboarding. Pretty suprising there is about 6 of us from such a small village. Fingers crossed some wind this weekend. Quote
avenging Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 nice one much appreciated, just bought myself a 2nd hand landboard and an instruction dvd but theres nothing like learning by your mistakes:D oh and i like to think im an ageing hoodie scumbag although the mrs has been trying to sophisticate me for 20 years:rolleyes: Quote
unruly1986 Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Hi all, bit of a thread resurrection here, but I am wondering if any of you Pen guys still kite. I moved to Pen recently and am getting into Kitesurfing after a spell away from Powerkiting. Went for a run down the beach last week and thought the conditions would be great for kiting, nice wide beach and decent crosswinds. Only issue is proximity to A55 but as long as you use a sensible kite size I can't imagine it being too sketchy. Just bought myself some kit and am looking at having lessons prior to heading out on my own. Am going away with work until July soon so I'll be back for the summer :-) So if anyone fancies helping me setup my new kite in exchange for a crate please feel free to messgae me or post on here! Quote
jamesthebat Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Best bet is bring the crate over to Westshore when its windy next on a weekend. There is bound to be someone there who can give you a few pointers and keep an eye on you. Ill post on here if its looking any good this weekend. Quote
unruly1986 Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Cheers James sounds good. Probably not going to be flying it straight away as I'm still waiting on helmet and harness to arrive. Will be good to check the kite over properly though and check the bar is tip top. Is there ever anyone flying at Westshore mid week? My eyesight wasn't good enough to see last week, but the conditions seemed good enough. I used to do a lot of static flying over at WS with my flexi Blade, so will be good to get back out there. kiteingcolin Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Kited at pen before and it's not good, wind all over the place, the high hills right next to the beach must mix up the air flow, for 30 years now I have just drove straight past on the A55 on my way to the other locations, shame as the beach looks great and the Parking is spot on, but you never see kitesurfers or windsurfers there for good reason, I tried windsurfing there as well and it was even worse then kitesurfing, it is doable but a little frustrating, and you have to get way out for cleaner air.
