  2. been out of the game a good while and now find myself living in bradford, a big change from the highlands, and am getting the urge to fly again. anyone kiting locally to here?
  3. Thinking of having a trip out on Saturday to brid
  4. Hi all, I'm from the east coast where Fraisthorpe is my local beach for land boarding. It's very weather dependant for usability, like many other places, so i'd like to put a list together of all beaches and open grassland areas where kiting is permitted in the north of england and midlands. Is there a list of spots already out there? If not, can you tell me the places you know and any useful information like where to park and fees (if any), if membership is needed, or anything else of use. If there's not one out there i may try and find time to build a website or just use google maps to list them with some info for each one. Thanks Chris
  5. Thought I'd start a new thread as I stupidly put Sunday in the title of the last one. Anyway, we are ON for tomorrow on land. 14 - 21mph WSW. Full offshore Low tide is 08:52. Be there by 9am. All welcome.
  6. There didn't seem to be a Facebook GROUP for Cleethorpes, so I just made one. Feel free to join or ignore as you wish! https://www.facebook.com/groups/564493030291910
  7. Gonna be out at Fraisthorpe this sunday. Low tide is 1.41pm, forecast is for 15 - 18mph dead offshore. Not the best direction, but doable on land. All welcome. Log in | Facebook King Coupe

  10. hi yall now for sometime now folk have been flying kites at ponte the club there isnt the best connected club but however it is still a club i was chatting with the club treasurer yesterday and he says that in the past he's tried gathering names and numbers of possible members but without much success people say thay would like a club but what do thay get for a membership fee the fee is only £10.00 per year and ok its fair to say that in the past there's not been much in the way of communiation or orginisation and at the moment the membership list a pittyfull 11 members the only thing i can see wrong with the way the clubs being run is communication between members if we can up the members list we could all join together and organise an event im meeting the treasurer at the park next week he's bringing some contact details of members and to discuss a new set of ground rules for the club just think about it ponte airbourne kite & buggie club and if you have anything to say on the matter then nows the time to have your say .
  11. Well, six of us met with Ian Rayner at the council this evening. We had four concerns: 1. We didn't want a permit based system 2. We were concerned about irresponsible people coming to Fraisthorpe and acting in a way that jeopardised our usage of the beach 3. We wanted clear signage to notify the public of how to act around power kites at Fraisthorpe 4. We wanted to have a system of not only flying at previously designated areas (Fraisthorpe itself), but also to build a flexible system that allows for other beach locations in East Yorkshire to be used. I am VERY PLEASED to say that over a 2 hour meeting, ERYC made it very clear that their concerns were completely the same as ours, with only the additional desire to develop kiting as a tourist attraction in the area. They were keen to keep things essentially the same, and spent a lot of time listening to what our understanding of responsible kiting is, wishing to use this as a basis for the formalisation of the situation. The kiting community was commended for: 1. The effective communication seen by the council on Forums such as this 2. The professionalism shown by concerned individuals in NOT going running to the press about this matter, but rather approaching the council directly. 3. The exemplary record of beach users since the previous consultation in 2007. Next steps: 1. ERYC will provide notes from the meeting that will be published on here and on Racekites 2. The designated kiting zone will extend from the cream building (as before) to the farm car park (as before) 3. We (the kiters) will create a code of conduct (outlined in points 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 below) for kite users at Fraisthorpe that acknowledges the different needs of static flyers, kite landboarders, kite buggiers and kitesurfers at fraisthorpe 4. With regard to kitesurfers, this will incorporate a seasonality that allows wider access to waters during 'off peak' periods. It was not felt that land kiters needed usage of Brid South beach (north of the cream building) at any time of the year due to the unsuitability of the beach. 5. Static flying will be allowed without insurance (unless causing undue danger) to allow the growth of the sport among new flyers. 6. Wheeled land-kite and kite-surfing usage will require third party insurance (enforced through the need to be able to present an appropriate insurance card (BKSA, BPKA etc.). 7. Wheeled land-kite usage will require a helmet. 8. Kitesurfers will be recommended to wear a helmet. 9. Our Code of conduct will be sent to the BKSA / BPKA for comment/endorsement. 10. The council will pay for and erect interim signage to inform the public that kiting HAS NOT been banned from the beach 11. The council will pay for and erect permanent signage that incorporates the agreed code of conduct, acknowledges the 'shared usage' of the beach and gives concerned people the back up necessary to discuss insurance with novice pilots. This will inform the public of the usage of the beach for kiting and inform visiting kiters of the fact that they may be asked to show proof of third party insurance (BPKA/BKSA/SPKA membership). 12. The council will support self-regulation of Fraisthorpe through increased policing of the kiting on the foreshore. This will consist of increased patrols by foreshore officers to check for insurance. 13. We will work together to create a system of notification/identification if kiters wish to use other stretches of the coastline. This would probably include the erection of temporary flags/warning notices at these locations. 14. The council will seek ways to promote kiteboarding and kitesurfing as a sport in the area. I can't help thinking that this is the start of the journey, rather than the end!!! Many thanks to everyone who has provided assistance thus far, especially mick (chipmunk) who got the ball rolling for us with ERYC. Please come and fly at Fraisthorpe, and help to keep us on the kiting map! Low tide, easterly winds, welcoming folk, and a car park in a farmer's field! What could be better????? Watch this space for further info. Andy.
  12. Been 2 or soo years since I've flown , could do with flying this year at some point Got the kite , the harness and the buggy but no lines or handles at the moment so going to keep an eye out for a second hand set Shouldn't be too long so on mean time , it would be nice to see who still flys locally ?

  14. Anybody from round Harehills on here? I have a friend (Claire) who's just got herself a Flexi Bullet. It's not set up yet and I would really appreciate it if anyone from her area would agree to meet up - or invite her to fly in or around Leeds (her friend has transport)... just to help her set up, get the kite killers on right n that... Just for my peace of mind. She's only flown a couple of times and am worried she'll have an askident. So, please, please, if you're heading out and could just supervise and help out for her first time, I'd buy you a beer and a big bag o' crisps ;-) Email clairerobo@hotmail.com Largest of appreciations X X

  20. Just getting back into Kite Landboarding and wondering if there is anyone that lives near Gainsborough? Thanks
  21. We are meeting the tourism officer for Bridlington at 6.30 pm at Beverley Leisure Complex on Thurs 30th June. If anyone else would like to come along or talk to us beforehand please let me know. People currently attending: mkratty batz Coupey Necro777 Gushie I propose that we meet one evening next week to prepare. Batz, do you want to come and what time can you get to Beverley?
  22. Prompted by Batz, I just emailed Ian Rayner asking whether we are free to continue flying there whilst we are negotiating the finer details of the 'designated areas', subject to the usual provisos regarding being a danger/nuisance. He has replied to say that we are to continue as normal, subject to the normal safety measures and courtesy. He goes on to say that if we have any concerns about rogue users not being safe, we are to please let him know when and where if possible and he will ensure that a foreshore officer visits that location to assess and respond if necessary. It looks very much as if ERYC are keen to work with us. If only they were also in charge of the weather...
  23. Anyone flown there, static or in the buggy or board. What do the locals feel about somone landboarding accross their nicely mowed greens ? Google street map link ( have a look round 360) Heath - Google Maps
