    Flexifoil Bullet 4.5M

    Good Day All

First off thanks for a superb site.

Just read Bizb review on his beamer 3.6 and realized the same thing I have got so much info/advice from the site better give something back.

    Intro.
I had been flying my stunt kites for about two years. When I decided that it was time to convert myself over to the power arena.

Which coincided quite nicely with my planed holiday over to the UK in September 2004.

    Picking a kite.
After a lot of reading and web surfing I decided on the flexifoil bullet ,size 3.5. (Cheaper in the uk then in SA event with our 11 - 1 convertion rate) Decision made.

    Buying the kite.
After getting the family all pack and off on holiday. The day finaly came when I was able to get the the kite shop. (Scuff up in Wales since that where we were staying). After chatting to Ian for a bit and my male ego kicking in I ended up with a 4.5 Bullet. Two weeks left of the holiday so it was going to be a long wait before my first flight.

    First Flight.
Got home on Saturday morning unpacked sorted out the house/pool etc. Once done got my baby out of the bag and all looked ok. Quality of all component & looks excellent. Off the to field with my brother attached the lines no problems all clearly marked. Attached the handles put on the kite killers. Wind around 8-12 mph. Brother sorted out the foil and poof it filled with air and waited for it first instruction. (Nice)

Stood looking at the kite thinking that's rather large, not knowing what to except I gave the lines a little tug and up she when and off I went for a small run (sprint) down the field until the kite got the top. Flew for about a 2 hour switching between me and my brother. Good day!!!!

    The bite.
For the next two months when I got out flying the wind was about the same. Then the faithful day (28-11-2004) the wind was blowing a bit stronger not sure on the speed. Off to the park kite out and up it went and off I went all over the field. Got lofted about 2ft at one point straight up and down. Should have stopped at that point but having to much fun.

Then came the bite turned the kite across the top of the window up the centre ready for landing. At which time superbly timed by mother nature a hug gust and off I when up up and away not sure how high but the landing hurt like hell. Sent the wife across the park to collect the kite should have had the killers on but you learn for mistakes. Wife packed away the kite and off to Hospital with a broken ankle.

    Conclusion.
Treat the wind with respect. When flying and buying kites think with your head not your ego. You can always get a bigger kite later not a new body/life.All kites whether they are designed for life or not in the right condition can send you upwards to the heavens so be carefully.

Anyway will be back flying in a month or so once I have leart to walk again by which time i should have my 2.5 beamer. 🙂

I personally have not flown a bullet but own a few blades so I can relate to unexpected lifts and hard landings due to inexperience in stronger winds when I first started. I agree, its exciting to push the limits but be sensible about it and build up experience and know your kite..(to the above flyer, will see you at our next buggy session)

I have a 2.5 Bullet and I know that you can get caught out even with that, so it's no surprise that your 4.5 got the better of you in gusty winds. Personally I hate gusts and would rather not fly, but sometimes you don't have a lot of choices. Happy flying.

It's always useful to be reminded that we should never be complacent when powerkiting. Totally agree with NutSoft, the 2.5 can 'bite' just as viciously in the right(wrong) circumstances. My first powerkite was a 2.5 Bullet and even though I had been flying it for quite some time was still caught out some months ago when hit by an unexpected gust. As a result I'm still having problems with my hip (Although that could be old age - har har !). However I still love that kite but have been reminded of the most valuable lesson that it is important always to respect and understand both the kite and the wind.

Thanks for sharing. Everyone is right from what I hear. I am fairly new to kiting and I was out the other day in winds that were to much for me. I really needed to do that though. I have a greater respect for kites in strong winds. It's not a joke.
