Personally... I'd say go for the standard stuff... Either a standard PL or Flexi will do you just fine and the wheels/tires won't make a difference until you're rather experienced at it and know what the differences are anyway... As for kites... Elliot Ekko's... cheap, GREAT build quality, excellent starter buggy kites, and they pull like a truck doing 90mph on the autobahn... nuff said... But thats just my opinion
-
Last year at SBBB the buggy speed record was set at Ivanpah Dry Lake in Nevada using a Jojo RM 3.0 in 40mph winds.. not sure what buggy was used, but the record was 78 mph or so I believe(someone correct me if I'm wrong) Don't know about you, but I'd prolly have to change the shorts at that point... I thnk that still stands..

I've done a search and all that, but would REALLY like to see what others think about the Ekko Classics?... Is it just me or are these kites horribly underated??? I just got a whole set and I absolutely LOVE THEM.. The smaller sizes have AMAZING pull for their size... the 2.2 EASILY outpulls my Blade II 3.0.. All of them turn with very little input on the handles and their turning radius is excellent.. I have my lines set up identically on all of them and found that the break lines have to be adjusted so they're just barely slack, and then you're GONE!!!... They do tend to overshoot zenith in the parked position, but then again... I found that these kites really don't like to be "parked" at all... They want to MOVE!!! In 18mph winds, the 3.8 was fabulous in the buggy... was picking the dirt & grass outta my teeth cause I was smiling the whole time... Anyone else flown these or have an opinion to share?... I don't think many of us here in the states have them, so I do count myself lucky... I know there are race engines out there that'll blow it away, but for bang for the buck... I don't see how they can be beat...

Kenny... I'm in PA just north of Philly & run into the same problem you have alot... Believe it or not, I find the winter time is the best time for me to buggy as I use state parks with BIG frozen lakes (covered in snow of course)... Also, I use a few of the local high schools around here as they usually have VERY large campuses... in the summer, I'm usually at the beach every weekend which is only 1 1/2 hrs away... you should try & get to Wildwood, NJ @ the end of May (Memorial Day weekend) for the ECSKC & Int'l Kite Festival... BEST beach on the east coast, hands down...

I'm not sure what everyone else wears, but I wear a Wrestling shoe called Asics Jackal... very light & comfy, and provides EXCELLENT ankle support... I don't like to wear boots because I can't "feel" on the bottom and I like being able to have that lite almost barefoot feel when I buggy... (I know its weird)
-
I went ahead and shortened the strop length on BOTH and found it made a HUGE difference... I simply adjusted them to where my arms are in comfy position, while still having plenty of tension on the strop itself and it works perfect... thanks for the tips & advise... now it doesn't come out of the hook at all unless I really pull on the handles and lower the strop to release it...
-
I appreciate the responses, but the whole reason I got the harness was to alleviate arm stress while buggying... kind of defeats the purpose otherwise... Anyone else use this specific harness? How do you get on with it given the problem stated above, if you even have the problem stated above?
-
OK... today was my first time in a harness... I'm using an Pro-Limit seat harness 2003 model... was static flying my 5.5 PKD Century & 3.0 Blade II just to get a feel for it... things were ok and made a HUGE difference on the arm weariness... the problem I'm having is when I get into the buggy... Flying high in the window is fine, but when I drop the kite down so its in the power zone, the strop doesn't seem to want to stay in the spreader bar hook... the hook itself seems to "lean" back regardless of how I'm seated, making it "easy" for the strop to come out of the hook... Is there something I'm doing wrong? or do I need to make adjustments somehow?... I have a 16" strop line on the 3.0 & 20" on the 5.5 and it didn't seem to make a difference. it still just slid out of the hook... I tried adjusting the spreader bar and tightening the straps to the connectors, but no luck there either... Please bare in mind, this, as I said, was my 1st attempt in a harness, so ALL info is appreciated...

I'm not sure about the Broadband thing... but these guys just finished a new video I know I posted this before in a different thread, but this may be perhaps the best buggy video I've ever seen... plus their soundtracks are always killer... well worth the download time IMHO...
-
Yeah, I know the correct the way to assemble it, just curious if it would work...
-
Just curious if anyone has ever tried this, and put a PL XR or custom seat in it that way... seems to me the side rails would be higher and allow for a deeper, more comfy seat, but not sure on the center of gravity shift... or maybe thats the way its supposed to be & I've been doing it wrong all this time???

Dave... I just emailed Charles regarding those kites as the deal just sounds way to good to pass up... As for my 5.5 Razor... I've read alot of stuff on the forums here & elsewhere that these kites love to luft alot in gusty conditions, and I have to tell ya... I didn't see it when I was flying last weekend... The winds were 15mph steady, gusting to 20-25 and I found that applying small amounts of tension on the break lines keeps the kite from doing just that... granted, when the gusts did hit, I let it all out and literally exploded across the field, but whenever the wind died down to the steady 10mph, it kept its form rather well... just my opinion, but it flew very nicely for me...

I just got a 5.5 Razor & I'm in love with it... it's the only kite in my bag right now, but have the 3.5 & 4.5 on order... I haven't flown the PKD or Preds or Raptors yet, due the fact they're EXTREMELY hard to come by here in the states... I have a bead on a guy selling 2m & 3m JoJo RM's RTF for $400 for both... does that sound like a good deal?... I've flown LD's, Blades, C-Quads (which I still love), and numerous others, but with nowhere to really get on here, other than school fields, it's hard for me to judge the Razor's characteristics.. I will be flying it at Wildwood at the end of May for the ECSKC, so I'll be able to get a better feel for it then... I was actually considering trading it for a PKD Century 4.5 or Raptor 4.5 as no one here in the states has these kites....

Give these a try... you have to download the files & unzip them, but MAN are they worth the time... http://www.kite-buggy.de/video/video.htm It's german site, but you should be able to figure it out...

EXCELLENT buggy... I have to ask where you got the wheels in the US as I'm based here in the US myself and would like to get a set... Class A job on the buggy, have seen some nice homemade ones, but that is superb...
