  1. i got my blade II 4.9 on xmas day and haven't had chance to fly it yhet - will try at the weekend. I'm looking forward to it *so* much, i hope the forecast is good (i'll find out tomorrow when BBC updates ), i'll probably use a normal ground stake to hold mine down - heck, it's all i've got at the moment! I have heard about de-power whatsy-me-callits, but i haven't a clue how they work or if they'd really be any use. Can someone explain how it would work? thanks!
  2. ahhhhhhhhhhhh, whoops - damned GCSE geography teaching me all the wrong stuff! lol! ah well!
  3. Ah, but if the groins are removed, longshire drift will eventually drive all the sand up to the other end of the beach, eroding away what is there leaving you with a much thinner strip of beach. Ah the joys of GCSE geography ! I might come along and check the place out sometime then - thanks!
  4. that sounds great. How do i sign up for that insuance thing? Do i need a buggy for it, because i only have a kite - can i still sign up for it? Is it ok if i come down sometime in the next couple of months just to try the place out before i sign up and pay for membership:confused: ??????? Does the beach at weston ever get overcrowded with kiters and people doing these type of sports, what happens if/when it does?
  5. Does anyone know of any decent beaches within a two hour drive of the Gloucestershire area? What's Weston-S-Mare like - i've heard it's good, but i want to ask some more experienced people because i'm not too sure.........
  6. me? job? what's job? Nope - sadly i don't work at all - apart from school work which sucks (if anyone has a job going i'm a very conscientious worker willing to work at weekends ), i want a job but can't bloody get one because i'm only 15 and don't have my national insurance number yet. So i'll be free on that saturday probably - i'll try my best to get to selsley on that day if the weather is ok
  7. work - unlucky! Thinking about that i have 2 pieces of coursework i need to start, due in the first week i go back (which is in 6 days) !!!!!!! Ah well! The weather looks like it'll be pretty bad on that day anyway, so i probably won't go. Next time i go i'll let you know!
  8. just read that post and it isn't very clear - lol! I'll be at Selsley on 2nd January if the weather is gd - i looked on the BBC site and it ses thunderstorms, but i'll still see what it's like nearer the date. If anyone is gna be there as well, reply to this thread or email me - joel@skrunge.co.uk
  9. k, i'm an idiot - i got minchinhampton mixed up with selsley !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, i'm sure i'll find my way there with a map - i'll be there on the second of january - see some of you there hopefully!
  10. ah well! Young is good! If any of you know the law - as long as i stay in full time education my parents legally have to pay to keep me 'going' and house me till i'm 18 !!!!!!! My parents buy my hi-fi, computer stuff, clothes, sports stuff etc etc etc! If my mates see me in town with my mum or dad (which i am old enough not to really care about now) i just say "they have the credit card" - thankfully they don't minbd using it for me !!!!!! I always manage to sweet talk them into giving me money, so i always have money (more or less) on my solo card, which i can use on the net. They will take me most places to fly my kite, buty my mate can drive soon so it'll be even easier being as he flies too !!!!!!!!!!! Although being old sounds cool - my dad has a hi-fi, and it's so loud and amazing. I have quite a nice one, but not loud enough - i have 2 Wharfdale flatpanel speakers (the ones u can put speakers onto). I think being young or old have their advantages and disadvantages over each other, and i can't wait til i can afford a house, car and loud speakers of my own !!!!!!!!!! Anyway, enough rambling on! I'll be at Minchinhampton on January 2nd - i'm in devon until then and i can't take my bloody kite with me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't know what time i'll be there - probably 12-1pm until it gets dark. My mate Andy will also be coming along with his blade II 6.4m. If any of you are going to be there, i'll see you then! HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i finally got at my kite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  11. then you're just like my dad if you cant stand MP3 quality! I prefer the newer stuff! It's likely to be (wait for it) 4-5 DAYS after christmas before i fly my kite, because i'm going down to devon for a few nights to see my cousin and i am not allowed to take myu kite !!!! It'll be after the new year when i fly it first time - that really pissed me off  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. oh by the way - notice my play on words with 'Punk Rocks'?? A play on the genre 'Punk Rock' - oh god i'm clever!! lol!
  13. the oldies still rule! They set the tracks for the new stuff. Sex pistols, sublime are all great, although i prefer newer bands! Spankboy, Farse, [spunge], Pennywise, Waterdown. Those are 5 great bands - if you like punk/ska - PLEASE download (then buy - had to say that for legal reasons) some [spunge], Farse and Spankboy and tell me what you think - i went to see them at their recent Cheltenham gig - it was absolutely AMAZING!
  14. nah - being young is cool - you can get away with more!!!
  15. Sounds pretty cool! Fly your kite on the other side of the world - amazing!
  16. ah well, it's kinda cos my parents put a load towards it (for my Xmas pressie). So they say "you're not having it until xmas because it's your christmas present". Damn parents!!!! I know i'll have A levels to do (i'm doing 4 essay subjects as well ), but until then - 10 weeks of non stop flying - YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
  17. lol - 6'4" sounds big, but really it isn't TOO big, i think! Ah well!!!! Being young is more fun - apart from exams - just done my mocks (GCSE) and i've started getting results back A in biology and chemistry, B in maths so not too bad so far (considering they r mocks). Can't wait til GCSEs are over - my friend over the street will be able to drive and he has the Blade II 6.4 - he'll have done his A2s, so we'll both have a ten week summer holiday of parties and kiting down the beach - yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!! And not everyone is old - how about that kid who flies for team flexi - he's just like 14/15 isn't he? He must be amazing! My friends at school r getting annoyed with me now - none of them are into kiting, and it's all i've been talking about recently - lol! I CAN'T WAIT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  18. i dont need one, but i figured it'd be cool if i had a harness because being not the strongest bloke in the world (at only 15 don't forget) a harness might be quite useful when i start wanting to get bigger air and stuff (*looks ahead - he hasn't even flown the blade II 4.9m yet!!!*). What do you all think?
  19. how about i save up for a harness and give you a wave sometime ????????????? By the way people - what do i need for a harness? I know i need to buy more than just the harness, but how much more? Could someone please enlighten me and give me an idea what i need to buy and how much it should cost?
  20. Good english Brossie - i'm also fifteen, and can't speak german anywhere as gd as u can speak english (i'm doing it for GCSE). It's JOELio by the way! My name is Joel and for some reason my friends added the -io on the end (don't ask why - but i think it was after Basement Jaxx released the song Romeo). I won't be flying it for a couple of weeks yet (damn parents saying "but it's for christmas!!! !!!), but as soon as i have flown it i'll tell you what it's like. If you're tall and just 15 like me, i'll be a good person to ask (i guess) cos i'm assuming we'll have pretty much the same build. I'm 6'4" (i measured my height yesterday !!!) Anyway enough rambling back to the kite! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! I'm sure it'll be wuite soon after Xmas - my parents don't seem too fussed on taking me places to fly my kite considering the field over the road is small, near a road and has lots of trees around it, and Cleeve Common (although ideal) doesn't have the best access for an MPV !!!!!!!!! After spending £150 on the kite, they can't say no !!!!!! Anyway, i'll definately PM you a day or two before i go to selsley - whats the car parking like there?
  21. thanks for the helpful words! Yeah, Cheltenham is about an hour away south down the M5 + about 30 mins trying to find the place in all the industrial/business parks (even with a map!) !!!!!!! I've had a super10 which i sold to get the blade, flown a friends proteam 8 and his blade II 6.4 - although i flew it wrong (and so does he). I learnt a lot from John who taught me the proper and most efficient way to steer it was using the brake lines. It's gold - i was going to get black but a) they had none in stock and b) i realised that gold would be brighter and stand out more in the sky and c) i saw the gold kite and thought - wow that looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! (Much better than it looks in the magazines etc. if anyone out there is thinking of a 4.9!!) I'll probably be going out with my friend the first time somewhere in Stroud (Minchinhampton or Selsley), i'll need help setting up the lines and stuff - i don't really wnat to do that at home (i'll be able to attatch it to the kite, but not the handles as well) because a) none of the rooms are big enough, or they will have a big fat christmas tree or table in them, and i also have a dog - i big fat cute (but sometimes equally annoying) golden labrador, who would guaranteed run over it and try to fight it (he hates kites - but i can't see why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Thanks again people!
  22. Yay! I got my Blade II 4.9 on Saturday from powerkiteshop (i went and collected it). It's so sweet!!!!!!!!!! It's like amazing! But i can't fly it til after Xmas day !!!!!!!!!! Can't wait til i take it out on boxing day - i'm taking it out even if there is no wind, the only thing that will stop me is gale force winds and perhaps a blizzard/torrential rain. I got a few tips from John at powerkiteshop on how to fly and use it, but any tips for getting air with it and tricks etc would be really helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *the over excited joel tries to calm himself down, unsuccessfully!*
