    HQ Beamer TSR

Used the kite in 15mph winds last night with the harness. Felt very secure and easy to control the power. Tested the strop quick-release and it worked fine, but I would like a bigger pull ring..it was a bit fiddley to grab when you're being yanked by the kite. Control in the windier conditions was fine and scudding a few meters was easy. The kite does turn slowly. At the edge of the window it continues to fly predictably and didn't collapse. At the zenith you can relax pretty much an the kite will hover patiently for you up there like a nice little puppy just waiting for you to throw the stick. then weeeeeee! The more I use it the happier that this is a great kite for a first-timer like me.

    HQ Beamer TSR

Initial impressions of the HQ Beamer TSR: The package arrived with everything as promised, Knapsack, Kite, Strop, Bar with all the leaders and killers attached plus the Lines nicely wrapped on a plastic bobbin. The quality seems good and although the build instructions are very terse, and the DVD completly useless, it was just enough to let me put it all together correctly (I hope;-)) All previous flying had been with 2 line stunt kites so I was glad to have a day with little wind forecast. On the beach there seemed hardly any wind, maybe 3mph to 5mph at times but once I laid out the lines....and looked for a nice big rock to hold the kite killer line (HQ - we need a ground stake!!) then the kite inflated easily even in these light winds and held it's shape while I went to the bar. It launched simply with no 3rd party help needed and rose straight to the zenith. Also reverse launching was easy after crashes. But it pulled away to my right all the time and overflew. I shortened the left line by about 3cm and that fixed the problem. There was very little power in these winds, clearly not the kite's fault but in the gusts you could get a taste of the potential. The kite turned fairly slowly because the bar is fairly short. But if you need a really quick turn then pulling the power line just above the bar can work. The kite would do the figure of eight no problem and a full 360 then happily fly with one twist in the lines (I didn't try more yet). It will hover over the edge of the wind window and preform nice aerial dives and you feel good force when pulling her out of the dive. I liked the safety features, the kite killer wrist band is big and comfortable. It also has a total release option. The Strop I didn't use yet, But it also has a quick release ring which worked well when I tested it by hand. Overall, great first impression. Minus one point for the ground stake not being included. Can't wait to have a few more goes and then add the mountainboard into the mix !!! By : acolmanj
