The advice about taking insulin before sport has also changed. If you're Type 1 it's worth talking to your GP / diabetic nurse about the DAFNE (Nottingham) course. In Manchester its called TIDE and in other areas its called the Bournemouth Course. It really helps you understand things better and gives you much more flexibility. I was on the trial course 12 years ago in Nottingham and am now doing the TIDE course as a refresher.

Gents and Ladies, it's been a while since I've been on here as I've spent the last 9 months preparing for the arrival of a crib midget. Now he's here I need to sort a holiday to keep me sane. The wife and the kid need to come with me so I could do with a location that will keep everyone happy. By everyone I mean the wife...the baby can't whinge yet... I've done Eygpt and don't want to go back, so thats out of the equation. Alvor was good but the spot is miles from anywhere and not baby friendly British Virgin Islands were good but that was once in a life time :-( Basically I need somewhere that fits the following description:- - Decent beach with good facitlies on it or nearby - Dhakla ain't going to cut it! - Good Hotel with town or village nearby - ideally not a concrete jungle or full of pissed up brits - If I could surf in the morning or go mountain biking or enduro riding that would be a bonus Does such a place exist? I'm off to Portugal for a week with the whole family and would like to get some kitesurfing in. We're going to be staying in Val de lobo. I've been to Alvor before, which was a great spot, but it's a bit of a mission from where I'm going to be staying. I've seen some people refer to the Faro lagoons and also a kite school called Eolis which is a little further to the east. Has anyone kited Faro or at Eolis....? Any info or local hints and tips would be great. I'm there the first week of September...hopefully there will be some wind or surf rolling in otherwise I will be going out of my mind!! Cheers Tom

Access is a bit of a pain. Find the road near the football pitch to the east of the lagoon and south of the town centre . It's often blocked off as it's a nature reserve. As I understand it it's illegal to drive down to the rig up point near the sea walls so we've always walked. Propper mission in the heat but worth it!! You can access it from the western side and do the drive of death across a very narrow road, which you can see on google maps, to the south of the mussel beds crossing the lagoon. Its quite a long drive from Alvor though if you're staying there..... If I were you I'd park the family at the beach and go yourself. It's not a spot for non kite surfers as there's feck all else to do and the sand is as hard as rock.....unless you like spear fishing!!

Looks like Abersoch and Pwllheli may be an option this weekend from the wind direction. Does anyone know what the script is on the main beach in Abersoch at the moment and where the 'spot' is in Pwhelli. I've never kitesurfed either but the direction looks to be ok.....
