You can see the funnel trying to form in the top center of the picture.

SoutherlyBuster reacted to jhn.holgate for a gallery image, Tornados
There's supposedly more tornadoes here than in tornado alley in the US, according to Paul, but as there are very few people out here, they rarely affect anyone. These were unable to properly form due to lack of wind shear (I don't understand it, but that's what I was told).

According to Paul, these are all actually Tornados trying to form but lacking the wind shear ? to do so. either way, there were some spectacular cloud formations.

A stunning sunset on the lake. An hour before, there wasn't any water there. A SE'erly had piled it up on the other side of the lake. At the end of the day the wind dropped and the water crept back. I've got some video of it coming back at about half walking pace. Surreal!

On the way back from photographing the Blimp, I noticed the turbines in the fog and grabbed a few snaps....

This is a 5 and a half minute exposure at ISO 400 so you can plainly see the movement in the stars. I haven't seen this for five or six years now. And then I'd have to go back another 5 or 6 to the first time I saw the aurora. The first time was really good with colors being visible and tall 'curtains' forming and melting away. Of course, no fancy digital cameras back then and I wouldn't have known how to capture them with my film camera. To the eye, this was just a low white 'fog', you'd struggle to see this in any sort of town. Keep an eye out over the next few nights as there's a large-ish sunspot pointing roughly towards the earth which I believe is what's causing the aurora.
