The ability to bounce the wireless part of the connection is a simple issue. As said previously, either get a purely wired ADSL Modem/router or turn off the wireless capability of an existing wireless router. The consideration of the Business bit is another matter. I use Demon.net and the service used to be called Business 2000. The product range has recently changed as they now bring higher speed on line. It costs a lot more than my home connection but for that I get a QOS (quality of service) agreement which in essence promises that I will be online for 99.9%-100% of the time. In the 10 or so years I have been with them I can only remember one instance (which was actually last month), when the internet was down. I get a consistent speed and unlimited data downloads and as far as I know, uploads. Also, when I have had to use it, they have a UK based call centre who have always been extremely friendly and useful.

Do not agree. You may be able choose your vocation which is usually based around your skill, education and ability. You are very lucky if you can then choose a job which balances what you are able to achieve from your skill set you have available and what your goals and aspirations are. Against that is the basic availabilty of the job you are able successfully carry out. There are many people out there who simply cannot get a job which reflects the experience and qualifications they have acquired through the education and work life. I am aware that there are many degree holders who are flipping burgers just to get a wage. And as this damn recession begins to bite harder, all caused by overpaid gamblers who should have spent more time at the dog track with the own money and not mine, it is even more apparent that the current Uni generation, the under 25's are getting hit hard.

Always enjoy watching the big Cycling tours including the Tour De France. Conversation on Eurosport last week on the earnings achieved by the riders. It was noted that many of the new riders basically ride for nothing and are lucky to get board and food during the 3 weeks of the tour. It never ceases to amaze me how much effort these guys put into what they do especially when the have to get over the Alps. Even those at the front can only expect to make a 'decent' living with only someone like Lance Armstrong possibly breaking the $million/year mark backed by endorsements. Compare this to the German guy last week who won back to back golf rounds and sidled off with around a million quid just for walking around a "well kept municipal park" with a metal stick and a little white ball. And do not get me onto Base ball players. So.... My question is. What, in your opinion are the activities where the effort expended does not match the rewards achieved?

I do find the current concept of "Cloud" computing and also the gradual move to "Virtual machine" based systems running multiple operating systems, rather interesting. My feeling is that Microsoft and their PC based doctorine they have fed us for the last 20/30 years has really balls'ed us up big time while making them a lot of unjustified money. I have a number of clients now installing single high powered machines running multiple server instances instead of a number of single boxes, 1 for each 'application' (Mail/TS/SQL). Surely this is going full circle back to the concept of 'mainframe'. A single fully configured machine or machines which ran the application and the terminal simply acted as that, a terminal. 25 years on we now have - Single high powered machines (or more likely, multiple machines connected in parallel), Terminal Services, Citrix, Thin Client. To me, this just proves that the PC concept of moving the processing away from the central CPU to distributed devices, never really worked. It has been 'ok' for such requirements as Word Processing or simple spreadsheets and possibly image manipulation, but has always failed for true business needs such as small and large central databases and true sharing of data. Instead, while we have been suffereing the march of Microsoft, the systems that really worked, *nix, Pick "multi value/dynamic" databases and its derivatives, IBM, ICL, Unisys, Sperry, Prime have fallen. While other companies, Novell, Citrix, and now Google, have attempted to glue together all the distributed data which we all have always needed to be centralised. Now even Microsoft are finally providing us with the operating system which already existed 30-40 years ago, but they killed off as they took over the world. In the mean time we have had to put up with disconnected, session based database connections, disparate data which had to be moved around either by copying to transportable devices or slow networking. We have had to learn new and highly complex programming languages just to enable us to administer this data and overcome the lack of security of using distributed computers and other devices. I am not saying that the Interweb is a bad idea but I feel that what it is now attempting to provide us with, already existed before Mr Gates got involved and it is where we should have been, many years ago.

There were reports that a number of people visiting Glasto last week were found to have either being carrying pig flu or contracted it while at the festival. Wonder how much effect bringing together anything up to 200,000 people from far flung locations around the UK every weekend over the next two months during the festival season? Add to this the fact that many of the visitors will be of Uni age, with diminished or weak immune systems after the stress of end of year exams. This in turn will be affected by the excessive consumption of alcohol and other forms of "experience enhancement" substances. Should be interesting.

Just got back from seeing and listening to Blur at Hyde Park. Wondered whether anyone else went last eve and wonder what they thought? Felt is was a bit of a 'best of' night with some of the more obscure and quite often better tracks missing? Also, poxy fizzy lager was a right rip off.

Glasto:- According to the Daily Scaremonger (Mail) the BBC took an army of 300 to Glasto for their "toptastic" coverage. Just thought that they could have spent a little less time looking up Edith Bowmans skirt and down Jo Whileys cleavage and more showing he music including some of the lesser known bands on the smaller stages. From those that I did see... I thought the Specials were great. Madness OK but I felt Terry Hall had the edge from the 'How has my voice aged?' point of view. Ting Tings were on at the same time as The Specials.... Wonder whether the Ting Tings will still be around in 25/30 years like the Specials... I think not. Kasabian were good but I am sure they were on the Second Stage 2 or 3 years ago and I reckon they were better. (May have mixed up with another Fest!). Have to admit, for old farts, the Quo did a tidy set. Blur - OK, am off to Hyde Park to see them later this week. Prodigy, Also saw them at V in '97 (think) with Blur. The Prod were one of the loudest things I have ever experienced. Top stuff. Will try to catch Penduluum via Iplayer.

After driving for 25 years and owning a number of Sat Navs for around 7 of them, I still think a 5 quid map from Halfords and 5 minutes of pre journey planning far more cost effective. Use Google for a detailed map of you destination and any areas you feel may be of potential hassle. Camera detection :- The camera agencies are wising up to this. Far more temporary, van based and average camera's are being installed. Use the £200 towards a decent set of cans for the back of the car so you end up with a thumping good headache when you arrive. You will impress more people with a top sound system than a whimpy smeg nav.

I would have thought:- Cheese is made up of water and animal fat. Cooking the cheese would first boil off the water content which, depending on the %age of water within, may hold the boiling point within a range around 100 C. Although I would think even by now the fat content would be the main influence. Once all the water has evaporated, the fat content would take over and I would assume the boiling point would raise considerably. Try cooking lard!
