  1. As far as I know the only time you can't ride there is when there is a race meeting but as they don't seem to have many meetings there, most of the time is fine. http://www.pontykites.co.uk/ Looks like they ask for members only to ride up there now. I'm sure if you wanted to just check it out they won't kick you off the first time as they all seem like good guys up there. If you like it then £10 a year won't break the bank and it helps them pay the council/racecourse for permission to ride there so you won't ever get rangers or the public telling you not to ride as they pay for the privilege to ride there.
  2. Is this a new rule? I was boarding down there last summer a fair few times at weekends and there was nearly always at least 1 or 2 other guys boarding. I was never told I couldn't ride there by anyone. Hoping to try out York racecourse when the weather/light evenings returns and I decide which new kite to buy (anyone local got a Venom, Phantom or Psycho2 I can try out )and I have found Pontefract racecourse to be worth the drive from Leeds. If Roundhay isn't off limits: http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=433000&Y=437000&width=700&height=400&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=LS8&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=0&scale=25000&out.x=8&out.y=8 If you drive up the main road through the park heading North (from Leeds centre) most people ride on the open park area on your right, you can just park along the main road. Best to pick somewhere in the middle cos it is surrounded by trees.
  3. Waiting for some decent weather at the weekends!! Don't seem to have had much recently. Or if we have I have been busy
  4. Thanks Greg, Will have to head over to York soon then.
  5. Watcha got? Currently looking to get a depower and at the moment thinking about Psycho2 10m or Venom 13m but want to try both before I decide. Don't suppose anyone who flies around Leeds or somewhere not too far away has either of these and wants to demo / 'demo & sell' do they?
  6. Yeah, looking OK on xcweather too. Missed last weekend so definitely want to get out this weekend. May head to Ponte if the wind is up if anyone fancies it?
  7. Haha, I was thinking the same thing. I used to go to Uni (not Leeds) and with my job am currently learning French and the tutor is from Leeds Met Uni (well its close!) which for the next 20 weeks makes me a student there (NUS card and everything!). Does that qualify me? No, oh well I tried But hey if you are ever short on numbers for trips or just want more friendly kiters to come along when you fly around Leeds give us a shout on here.
  8. Yeah, good to put some faces to names from the forum. Am hoping for some wind on Saturday as I have nothing planned. If so will probably head to York or Ponte assuming there is any petrol left in Yorkshire.
  9. I will be on and off of mine as I need some static practise with my 5m as it was pulling me off my feet last time I took it out in decent wind. You're welcome to borrow it.
  10. I have driven up to Tinshill before to see what it was like on an evening and there was quite a lot of football and rugby players training and having a kickaround and they were all spread out across the pitches which didn't leave a nice clear area at all for boarding. Will give it a go though if others are gonna be up there tonight as it isn't exactly far to go. Should be able to get there for about 5.30 assuming traffic isn't gridlocked by petrol buyers. Anyone gonna be up there?
  11. I was gonna head somewhere after work at 5pm. Was thinking of Pontefract. Just read a post this morning recommending Bedquilts in Adel to someone asking about places to fly in W. Yorkshire. You tried there? I am happy to go to Roundhay if I fancy a quick fly from home as I live right beside it but from work it is only 15 minutes to Ponte and I find the conditions are usually a lot better there. It would be good if Bedquilts was less gusty than Roundhay as it is also close to where I live.
  12. Yeah I wanna try York sometime. Went to Ponte racecourse tonight and it was good for about an hour then the wind died. What's the deal with York racecourse then? Obviously I have to check there is no race meeting on beforehand but assuming there isnt can we go at anytime? Is there a certain place we can/can't ride. Where can we park? I assume that this is probably all obvious when I get there but dont want to turn up and park or ride somewhere we arent supposed to.
  13. You heading to Roundhay? I was thinking of going over to Pontefract straight from work as I work south side of the centre so can jump straight onto the motorway. If I decide against that and go to Roundhay will keep my eyes open for you as I would be getting there about 5.45.
  14. Yeah I will be watching the wind when I get home so may be out after about 7 tomorrow if there is any and after 6 if there's any Thursday. Rich
  15. I went out in the morning but it started raining so packed up and went home then ventured to Ponte in the afternoon. There were about 5 kites out Sunday but it was very gusty, I had the 3m out and either struggled to get going or got yanked off the board. Although thats cos I still suck As I live quite close I am out on Roundhay quite a lot whenever there is a bit of wind in evening or weekend so come and say hello if you are down there or passing (Red 3m Samurai or Blue 5m Crossfire). I am struggling to get the Crossfire set up just right at the moment (been told the trick I think now so waiting for more wind) so I will probably be the one with a kite on the floor looking puzzled.
