denny Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Anyone there for the weekend or next week ,im there for a week if intrested kitesurfing ,what wind works and were to go Quote
stevefamara Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Hi Den You can kitesurf at burnham or brean best wind is sw w nw you can do s a bit gusty and n better at brean.Kitesurfing(no land based at either)at burnham is about 200m this way from the new beach lighthouse towards burnham if any good you will see kiters or windsurfers setting up.Brean is where i most go( past 6 years) as i stay at a campsite just off the beach you can park on brean beach which is past all the amusements and pontins about 2 miles up the road the beach car park is just before channel view campsite cheaper parking than berrow which is just opposite unity farm.On brean beach you will need to turn left at the bottom of the ramp and go as far as you can up to the last groynes you can drive to this is the best place to launch as the beach wardens get ****** at busy times if you launch near the entrance which is a good thing as its best to stick to the rules so we dont get banned! You can kitesurf here about 2 1/2 before and after high tide after that the tide goes out quick and it a sinking mud.Im off down to exmouth wed for 2 days but might be down at brean next wed thur after the bank hol if the winds are any good might see you then cheers Steve Best nemi hp 9m waroo pro 13m waroo 17m and best nemi 21m Quote

paulie_amoose Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 NE is the worst wind direction around here, few spots work. Minehead down the coast works and I think there is a spot down near Hinkley Point. Si Fly on here has the details of that spot. That's about it though. Quote
si-fly Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Im looking to get out over the weekend with a couple of friends, looks like Minehead or spot by Hinkley Point as Moose said. You need to be a "safe" kiter to sail Hinkley as its mainly a pebble beach (mostly small!!) so you do not want to get dragged on launch if you launch from the beach. So far I have launched from grass field (solo launch) just behind the beach and then walked over the pebbles....so which ever way you go its not ideal. Had a look last week and most of the sand from last year has now gone!! ...and 2 hours before high water all mud/sand was covered and just a 20m walk, unless you walk to the right for a bit more space (large rocks to the left at high water) see other post about NE winds for maps etc. Si. Ed_H Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 @ si-fly Are you on about Steart, as in the peninsula, or right down towards Hinkley. I've been off Steart before, trek to get too mind, likewise with Blue Anchor and Minehead. Quote
denny Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 Hi guys anyone no if burnham on sea or weston super mare is ok to kitesurf on a cross shore wind Quote
Ed_H Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Hi guys anyone no if burnham on sea or weston super mare is ok to kitesurf on a cross shore wind Cross shore works. At Weston if its from the south then Brean down will cause wind shadow, if its from the north then the kewstoke headland can cause wind shadow. At Burnham southerly winds are off blowing from the land, still can work. Try Berrow if its cross shore and lumpy everywhere else. Quote

Looks like were going to Minehead NE or Dunster if its East for an early one 0800 and maybe stolford in the evening if we've not had enough!! Si. Quote
denny Posted May 25, 2008 Author Report Posted May 25, 2008 Anyone up for weston - super - mare North eastly cross shore wind ,high tide is 10.am. Im on brean unity caravan site so only five mins from the beach if so i will check forum in the morning ,if anyone up for it i will put mob number on forum in the morning Quote
SonnyRider Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 north easterly is not a good wind for weston Quote
Ed_H Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 Somewhere between NNE and N, (NNNE, can you do that? someone correct me) is cross shore at WSM. NE blows offshore to Brean down. Quote
si-fly Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=&daddr=51.335545,-2.982101&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=14&sll=51.334044,-2.984076&sspn=0.038396,0.080338&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=14 Looks like your right Ed NE def cross off. Sailed Minehead yesterday bit up and down to start with but solid 25kt later on and sunny!....and sailed from 0820 untill 1400 and a couple of guys still going at 1530 so you could sail all day on these lower tides. Will be going again tomorrow arrive around 1000- 1030 and winds look good NE, but if go E then will go to Dunster but if you sail in the afternoon it will be a long walk back compared with Minehead. Si. Quote
si-fly Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Looks like 9m or maybe 6m weather in channel but its going to be wet!!...looking to get there around 11 ish and sail wind with tide to settle things down a bit. Si. Quote
SonnyRider Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 NE has to be one of the crappest winds to try and fly at weston... gusty...big holes... total nightmare trying to fly in that. Quote
