Ed_H Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Basically, I have a cast on my leg at the moment, having had reconstructive surgery on my right ankle with plates and screws and such. It comes off in three weeks, and I am after an ankle brace to keep it stable and get me active as soon as possible. I have found loads of ankle braces on the internet, does anyone have any recomendations? I would also like one for water use, I'm pretty sure they exist but can't find them, so I can get swimming, and hopefully as soon as possible be Kiteboarding again. Quote
Hentex Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 A good option now for you when kiteboarding is to ride semi stiff bindings... i wouldn't risk straps if i was you! As for supports for general use, i don't believe they ever really help apart from making you more confident to use your ankle. Sports therapists and endless studies always move to the opinion, they keep the swelling down but dont aid the joint because, they stop vital muscles ligament and tendons strengthening of their own accord. Ask a sports therapist of a decent physio whats best! Quote
paulie_amoose Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 I used one after a serious ankle sprain but Mr Blob is right it just gave me a bit more confidence in using my ankle, heal time was no different... I used it on the water too and it seemed to work ok... Quote
