Blue Ice Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Hmm might be after a light wind board... Dont wana pay an arm and a leg so what you guys reckon? I know the Bang board The BOW MOQ £279 which is really cheap, but what others do you guys recomend? Maybe the Best Chubby ? which is $399 in the states... Quote
macca1599968585 Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 check out the skywalker light wind board, getting good feed back on "kiteboarder" Quote
srod Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 what about the nobile skim that you have already? Quote
jamesnaishuk Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Naish custom wide se £299 James Naish UK Quote
Tone Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Spleene Session 141 or Door 159, 164. spleene make the best light wind boards around. the session is great as you can still pop really well on it, and it is super fast! Quote
youngrider Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Naish custom wide se £299 James Naish UK ill go with that. best lightwind board ive ever ridden much better than the flydoor:eek: . not that much difference in the wind you can take it out in and you can actually turn it and jump without it snapping. and if you are learning blindside riding it is the most stable platform ever and its got some awesome pop for a lightwind board amazing upwind ability aws it is soooooo wide :D :D Quote
Kite Kid Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 yer the naish boars are sweet or the crazyfly lightwind Quote
Noo Noo Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I was busy the other night watching a DVD featuring Mark Shinn going through his paces in the waves on a surfboard. Now that got me thinking that something like the Skywalker D-Wave would be fun. Not quite a skim board but not a surfboard either. I wonder. Otherwise I can recommend the Bang BowMoq. A mate has one with a 9m SLE and gets going at about 15 knots on it (Staying upwind) Quote
muppetbro Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 lightwind twin tips are super boring and will not go as quickly or get anywhere remotely close to the fun factor as the nobile skim board - despite some of the bullsheesh claims from the pimp brigade - i wont name one brand thrown down our throats daily on forums but when said board brand was going downwind at a rate of knots and i was on my first ever go on the skim screaming upwind i just thught must bne rider ability seriously it dont take much skill to go early if u got the equipment worth millions but hell for value for money kitesurfing kicks in at 16 mph with a nobile skim i have fun at 10 mph each to their own of course but dont belive too much hype on forums - try before you buy cos ull find 20 mins on stappred twin tips and ur bored mart Quote
harry_a Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 what about a directional? a 6ft surfboard will have you going in nothing Quote
Blue Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 The skim is great, i absolutely love it for the fun factor and will have a great summer on it for sure... BUT... in really light wind, if ya come off it and its not shallow enough to stand up, your gona have problems body dragging back to it due to lack of wind. (lost board) With a twin tip, atleast you can put a board leash onto it if you really need to but ya feet are in straps anyway. Quote
ptben Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I'm sure you get get board leash attachments to use on any board. You could put one on the skim then? Quote
ptben Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Found it http://www.cygnus-sails.com/buy-kite_surfing-Kite%20Board%20Fins-leash_attachment_point.html Quote
Blue Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Well, i did actually try to get one of them Leash adapters... http://www.cygnus-sails.com/buy-kite_surfing-Kites_surfing_Accessories_catalogue-universal_leash_point.html But it doesnt fit properly on the skim unfortuntely so couldnt use it... Any other suggestions? A leash attachment would be good though if i could get one. Quote
muppetbro Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 a surf board by design is not geared to go early however if u get a beefy rail with plenty of midboard volume it will go early but generally speaking a surfboard is designed for carving and not going in straight lines also with skims you can ride in shallow water with or without fins surf boards are good in waves with cross shore winds or cross off if ur your in dreamland but dont put straps on one and learn to carve and foot change - then again we only get w aves rarely in nuking winds rendering surfboards strapped up a neccessity in the white mush we usually get p-s with body dragging i swim upwind in light winds directly for my board no need to drag - as long as you can fly t he kite and hold it above you which usually means 10 mph steady - its the lulls that w ill drop ur kite however - falling off becomes less n less of a worry as u practice i honestly wudnt pay alot of money for light winds - 12 metres and a skim cover me - elt less u cannot fly the kite to stay upwind mart Quote
Blue Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hey... ive just managed to fix that leash attachment on in the end with some longer screws i just bought. So i dont have to worry about loosing the board and can start experimenting with her Quote
CoyoteBoy Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I found those board leash attachment points are too shallow for the webbing they come with - on my brothers board they force the tip to curl unless you spacer them out with something hefty (piece of CD cut to size for example). Quote
si-fly Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Hi, Can anyone tell me the weight of the "Naish Custom Wide" with pads fins & straps. Thanks Si. Quote
Dan Wilson Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Anyone tried a Airush exile yet? i've ridden one a few times and i think its a awesome low wind board, it rockets upwind and holds a good edge when the wind picks up. I was out on the exile and a 15m griffin in next to nothing 11/12knots max a few weeks back and was jumping and flying upwind with ease. I've never seen another exile out on the water so im just wondering what other peoples views are on the board Quote

ADDABOY - thats the way to sell your board Positive Karma for being honest though lol Quote
keyrb101 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 i have a 159 door and its awesome, gets going in a steady 10knots going up wind with either my psycho3 or 19m venom but my 6 2 fish needs abit more wind and is definately not a lightwind board. Quote
macca1599968585 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I have tried quite a few light wind boards. The Exile is a really nice board, very smooth, good in small waves, just a little to stiff for me, killer in chop. I have the 141 session, which goes a little earler than the exile, a lot better flex, still chop is **** though. I have tried all sorts of directionals/mutants they dont work better than the session, all to do with rocker and surface area. Had a brief go on the nobile skim, good fun, again went no earler than session. I think if you want a lot of light wind cruzing, a TT will work better as just easy to cover some distance with out hassel. If your looking for more tricking, playing in shore break, a skim/surf style will be better. Never ridden skywalkers light wind options but guys have given them good feed back. Am tempted with the skim/surf D wave, i like the idea of having the option for straps/fins makes a more versatile board. See if you can get a few to try, best way is to make up your own mind. The flydoor is thought to be the best, but would never have one in my quiver, just to long, go with what you will give you the most fun. Quote
