sonicseal Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Just a little video from a couple of Turbulence MTB team riders and a slight speed wobble accident. http://www.kitejam.co.uk/docs/downhill_0002_low_res.wmv The downhill board is prototype made by Trampa and fitted with Magura hydrolic brakes. The previous month we were hammering down the French Alps with ski runs, luge tracks and mountain tarmac upto 65kmph with no problem. Gutted I got mullered on my home turf (my body armour was in that yellow van). Footage by Mark @ AirXtreme, Alfie @ AE Productions, Mat @ Etticks, singing by some bloke called Elvis and all stitched together by Adam Jones @ Turbulence. Enjoy. Quote
Jonesing4Wind Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 man, that is why I wear a full face lid! Hope it all heals up OK!! Seany Quote
Jumpinjacks Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Painful looking speed wobble there dude!!! Gotta get me a board with a brake on for cruising down roads like that. Quote
Match Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Go on Paul! Charlie tried describing your fall to me at weekend, looks worse than it sounded You did well to keep your arms out of the way, not sure your head would agree. Quote
Frakke1599968664 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 nice vid.... till the end that has gotta be well sore hope you heal well... (remember chick love scars though ) Frakke Quote
KevT Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 OOH was prayin ye were gonna save it. Nice vid though Quote
Icarus Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 nice 1 dude i bet you still have scabby knee:D Quote
sonicseal Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 Hope your all enjoying it Managed to lose bark off all my corners and weld the waterproof jacket into my arm. All healed apart from an itchy pink patch on my left knee and a little tea-cup finger I keep re-breaking. It all went so well, the corner was wicked, but I guess I lost the edge coming out of that corner along with increased speed. Board went proper lively under my feet, it totally ignored my commands and turned 90 degrees for a laugh Can remember sliding, thinking about the Indo Board championships in a few hours time and why my full dainese armour was in that yellow van a few metres away!! Lucky I was wearing that lid, took a knock on the chin guard. I did 3 runs, got trashed on the first, (can't finish on a bad note), sweated like Micheal Jackson in a toy shop on the second and then the shakes set in on the third. The brakes are engineered by Nick Boxhall at Alpine Brake Systems. He has tried all kinds of set-ups for atb including discs, but these Magura hydraulic rim crushers are so sweet, especially compared to the old V-brakes (MBS). With this Hummer of a board in the Alps we shredded the sexeist mountain hairpins on the planet, tackled red-ski runs and super fast luge tracks. Awesome rush despite not being keen on normal atb. The locals were blown away with the possabilities. Heaps of interest wherever the board goes, even from non-atb folk. Quote
PKDBUSTER9 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Man we used to do that sorta stuff on Dirtsurfers, with and with out brakes. Although they dont give speed wobbles we did have a few off like that with them. Nice vid though. If you've got a Dirtsurfer i'd like to see that hill be done....... And on the single track!! Bet that hurt for weeks after that, but on behalf of the FLexiForum we thank you for doing that for our home viewing! Quote
LetoII Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 dude, sweet! but ouch. I know that road you were doing a run down and it's a fair run, bet that was a rush and a half lol I run maguras on my mountain bike, and they are nice, and more adjustable than discs. Sweet vid. where's the singletrack stuff in the first part of the video? Quote
sonicseal Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 Many thanks. It hurt but at least it was captured in film The cemetry side of the Orme is good too. The single track is over Conwy, the run is massive and stunning on a nice day. Will ask Stevo for the proper location. If you are interested in some MTB around here, I can hook you up with some peeps no problem. PKDBUSTER9 - Cheers dude, Come and have a go Quote
tom1599968574 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I really dont get this forum sometimes! Everyone is saying thats shweet, yet a few weeks ago a guy on a ds was slated for riding down a 40mph hill in the middle of nowhere with no traffic. That vid is far more dangerous, traffic, side roads, parked cars and more importantly, a board you fundamentally cant go fast on. why did the dser get slated and this one didnt?! Quote
angus8ken Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 the attidute of threads here seem to be dictated by the first post or two i find. it the first posts are positive then the thread will continue like that but if someone slates or says its dangerous then everybody will follow that view. i have been watching this trend for a while, just goes to show we are all like sheep.... Quote
LetoII Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Yeah I'd be inclined to agree with the above tbh, but I never said anything about the DS vid, I had no issue with it and thought it was good on the part of the riders who showed what it's capabale of. IMHO it was no more dangerous than riding a bike if you can ride a dirtsurfer, which I personally can't very well. Likewise with a board, I'd've crashed within 5 seconds never mind making it down to the roundabout! lol I commented on this vid because I thought it was well setup for a video shoot, you can see the cameras in different positions to capture the run and the angles were good. Can we have some onboard footage next time though please Ta for the info on the biking btw guys, been saying to Si that I'll have to get over at some point and do some. Quote
eeyore Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 did not see the d/s vid but probs wouldent of mentioned if it was dangerous tho... (yes another useless post from the donkey) Quote
gingerob19 Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Great vid dudes... looks like fun - don't let the anti - fun police knock it Rob Quote
encona1599968593 Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 well dude ya got some balls:) Quote
Dragon Danny Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Quality Mate! Would like to give that a go! Vut where i live its flat, flat, flat!! lol Nice stack as well Quote
sonicseal Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks peeps, glad you like it. Without decent brakes it would be very dangerous on the roads, but as far as I'm aware, its perfectly legal (is definatly is in Switzerland). I didn't plan to crash, but just goes to show what speed-wobble can do. I think I would of come off worse had I not been fully locked into the bindings. LettoII - We did have a clamped camera mounting (you can just see it as I bring the board out of the van) but it worked loose at the top. On another run the camera was taped to my helmet but the angle was useless. Wear protection. Quote
Prattymatty Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Wicked skills! And u so nearly kept the board steady. They should have a leaflet coming with all mountain boards with photographs of your injuries... Health and safety and al that Good driving by the guy in the escort aswell! Would love to give that a try some day but am a poor student cant even afford bearings! Quote
Bob Monkhouse Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 That's gotta smart a bit bro. Quote

Not being funny here at all but the things like this come under the heading "extreme sports" the more the extreme the better, nice one Paul cool video lol and glad you recovered from it \o/ Quote
