PieGuy Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I say we all adopt a dog walker, tie them to a stake and repeatedly ram them with air and fabric... no hard feelings to any dog walkers or anything Quote
Jared1199 Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 That's my point too, dogs are banned on Aberavon beach but people still take them on, completely arrogant and ignorant if you ask me, just thinking of themselves all the bl*@dy time. If they happen to walk on the only part of miles of beach where there are a few kiters they tut, sigh, moan and generally make it known that they feel that it's the people out kiting (who were there 1st and who use a tiny part of the beach) who are getting in their God-given right of way. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! Jared! Quote
kiter_ryan Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Flying my kite in the park.. had the kite on the floor, with some silly little mutt yapping around it, so i decided to launch.... downwind scud and it'll sure move..... it didnt! Practacly ice hockey hip-checked this dog.. who then ran off.. have never seen the dog/owner since. Quote
Jared1199 Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 Lol nice one Ryan!!! (I'm not advocating hurting any aniamls tho - not saying that Ryan did) Hmmm, got a funny feeling I'm digging a hole for myself!!! Again, it just shows the stupidity of some dog owners for not keeping their animals under control. Jared Quote
Bear1599968730 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 I wonder if there is a dog owners forum where somebody is whinging about kiters useing there beach. Most dog walkers I encounter are freindly and control there dogs. I will admit there are some right twats, but unfortunatly the old fart with a dog that barks at your kite is probaly head of the local council. Unless dogs are banned they have as musch right to use the beach as us. So try to be nice polite and smile cause if it comes down to it we will be banned first. I know its annoying and some times you just want twat them one but remember old farts that own dogs normally have plenty of time on there hands to right letters and complain. Right my turn, there is a small park near me that I use for static flying, its not very big but its good for a quick fix. The park has a set of goals, skate park, kiddies play area and some picnic benches. Next to the park is a massive field that is dedicated to dog walkers. I dont use the field for this reason. Yet they still walk there bloody dogs througth the park:mad: are some people just born stupid and ignorant . Quote
jontwhale Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 i usually politely shout. if i loose control and it hits you or your dog, it will take your head off!! to which they usually keep a wide birth! Jon Quote
The Geoff Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 ...whilst running to the local council to complain about these dangerous kiters who will decapitate people when they lose control... Quiet chat usually works better. Quote
badgerb Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Lucky me I have both, a 14 month old BIII 4.9 and a 12 month old black lab. The best way I found to get rid of unwanted dog walkers is to get the kite down quick and then release the mad lab, being a dog of verry little brain (and training) she loves nothing more than chasing other dogs, which comes into it's own when the other dog has enough of my dog chasing it down and jumping on it and runs off to it's owner with mine in hot persuit. The poor dog walker has no chance as my dog dosen't do slow or break and slams into the other dog owner. I have been fortunate to see two people knocked off their feet. They soon move on and see me as a dog owner with no control rarther than a kiter with even less control. If they just kept clear rarther than walking in my way when there is plenty of room then my dog would be fat but people would be safer. Quote
jontwhale Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 i would happily argue the toss with any council that i issued the warning before any accident happened. as they say, prevention is better than cure!!! Jon Quote
aquatix Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Quite simple really, pack your gear away neatly so that you are no longer a kiter, follow said dog owner back to their car or house (they are usually lazy tw@ts who don't like to walk more than a few metres anyway) then pi$$ or sh!t all over their car or home. When they complain, simply make deranged and menacing incoherent snarling and yelping noises before running away. Strangely enough, they will not enjoy such objectionable behaviour and will tend to go elsewhere in future to avoid damage to their valuable possessions or disruption to their leisure time. Quote
RandomJon Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I have noticed that lots of dogs hate kites, and that owners often walk were it isnt sensible too, but I havent noticed any deliberatle attempts to ruin my day so I try to stay out there way. My only gripe is from my time at westward ho, i'm fairly sure that dogs are supposed to be kept on a leash on the beach (according to the sign by the lifeguard hut at least during the summer zone rules) yet none do. tszy Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Dogs - they really P*** me off, especially the ones that turn rabid as soon as they see the kite [ or the shadow ]. I have recently taken to teasing these all around the field/beach whilst the owner shouts them selves hoarse [ doesn't do any good ] or gets a heart attack trying to chase the offending animal. I used to be quite scared of dogs but now I'm more than happy to welly any dog that tries to bite me or p*** on my kite bag. It's the owners that get me. They can't seem to grasp the fact that you don't unconditionally love their annoying pet. They can't understand why you don't think that chasing the kite all over the field is not cute ! Now that the darker nights are coming in - you see far more dog s*** on the fields as their owners are less visible and just don't bother to obey the law. The most annoying statment from dogs owners is "He's allright" well actually he's not allright, in fact he's a sodding pain in the a****. Get that thing on a lead. Oh for an AK47. Quote
Dastardly Dick Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 On the local park where I fly we have one old fart who walks five dogs, one of which is a large dark alsation that does a fair impression of the hound of the baskevilles and runs flat out barking and snarling at people while the owner stands four hundred yards away shouting " he won't bite 'onest" worries me and terrifies the hell out of the kids who are nearer the ground and the damned things mouth. By the same token the usual little turdy thing that bites kites was running across the field the other week intent on a kite when a lurcher came in sideways and took the dog out I nearly crashed laughing. I HATE IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS (most of them) Dave Quote
troy1599968664 Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 and then they are having a go at us for being unsafe. someone pointed out a while a go that if they do have a go at your kite go. then follow them back if you aren't to far from the car park and take their number plate and then report it to the council beacuse if your flying safe then its their problem. soz to hear it dude. had a dog pee on mine a hunstanton. bast"rds and they didnt even say sorry Quote
cosmicrider Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I totaly agree with everything thats been said about the dog walkers... all that peeing on your kite, bag etc....chasing the kite...owner shouting HES ONLY PLAYING...and TSZY is so right about they cant believe that you dont love there dog as much as they do ! I never even noticed bloody dogs and walkers untill i started kite flying.Anyway moan over Quote
andy kite king Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 ooooooh i do like a good old rant. here we go. ahem. the feild i fly in is b****y massive with about 7 football pitches in. this is fine for me cos the green keeper leaves a 2 football pitch sized patch of bear grass for me and i requested that he barrier of so it's all cushty. but the b**t**d dogs and there owners still walk through it. that dosn't bother me bcause they move quickley. it's the families on the beach that hack me off. there i was once apon a day flying my 2m buster in about 25-30mph. really quick kite and i was just jumping then before i new it a family had set up a bloody cricket pitch right under neath me. so i move.... they stop playing cricket and play foot ball. guess where they were doing that!!!! later that day i decided to do some buggying. now i admit i am not th best far from it infact) so my run was clearly marked with quite a few skid marks as well. the same bloody family come over and the little children started throughing sand at me?????? that was it i was slightly annoyed!!!!! turn round full pelt at them no mercy.....haha not so fun now is it. they were having threre fun i was having mine then there dad cam over and waited for me to come back. i parked and walked over to have a chat he got angry calling me a lots of rude things then i said something i shouldn't have!!!!!.... "it was there fault they shouldn't have" bang!!!!! he twatted me in the face i was unconciouse. luckily a life guard and good freind watched the whole thing and ran over and dump tackled him. then got joined by three others all pinning him down. they waited for the police then i spent the rest of my holiday in court. i won and got 1000 pounds compensation. now theres a sign bloody marvelouse. so as u can see i didn't do anyting wrong i was patient and didn't try to start a fight. i still get the odd couple hu sit right under neath me but i just move away and they stay there. so it's fine. this tale is a bit ott but it's a true story. just goes to show u can get away with it!!!! Sturmovik Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Some kiters are just looking for an argument!!!!! I was out thursday at my favourite location, the tide was in so alot of people toing and froing with their dogs. If the dogs looked boisterous before they got within 50m two line lengths launched the kite kept it at its zenith and move out of the way, easy! Later on when the tide was out, if people came close then I stop get out of the buggy keep the kite at the zenith util they pass by. Kiters must give way every time to other beach users.....remember the kite byelaw, posted sometime ago that I found, kiters are second to other users. Quote
Jared1199 Posted September 29, 2006 Author Report Posted September 29, 2006 Sorry mate but I disagree, every kiter I have met is not looking for an argument, just space to fly. In my experience, if me or my mates go to fly our kites, we don't go near anyone, we set up well away from people walking their dogs, people walking, kids playing etc etc... I'm not looking to start any heated debates as I know what you are saying Sturmovik about the kite byelaw and I am a great supporter of being sensible and sticking to the rules, but why should kiters give way to people/dog walkers when the kiters have set up first in an area well away from the 'madding crowd' and people ignorantly walk right in the danger zone and tut, sigh and moan that it's the kiter's fault for getting in THEIR way!!!! For example, I was flying at Aberavon today, the tide was out and there was miles upon miles of beach but, who should come but the dog walking brigade, walking right under/over my lines, their dogs, who, let's not forget, aren't supposed to be on the beach until the 1st October, yapping at my heels, trying to bite and p!ss on my kite, why can't they walk around!!? It's a very rude and potentially dangerous interuption, I lost count of the amount of times I had to fly my kite to the zenith to let dogwalkers past, despite acres of beach available, it wasn't even as if I was blocking a shortcut or a footpath - I deliberately set up out of the way because of previous problems with the dog walking lot. Any coments guys? Safe flying, Jared P.S - A big SORRY to all whom I said I would meet at the EKS Festival, my car gave up the ghost and I never made it - bloody thing! ( Quote

( Well you see Jared life is **** and you've just got to put up with it. Your arguement is a bit like why can't I drive my 4 litre Ford Falcon V8 thru the shopping mall because you can't and you shouldn't. Realise this and all will be well. Plus I think a little comment I got from a dog walker a few months ago illustrates the attitude quite nicely Me on beach with kite have a quiet break and the beach round me is empty. Jack Russell runs up and proceeds to sniff and scuttle round the bridles. Me to dog owner "Hi! can you call your dog away please" Dog owner "WHY DO YOU OWN THE F***ING BEACH!!!" Me "No its cos it's dangerous" Dog Owner "Silence and filthy looks" Dog "Bow Wow, now I can p**s on your kite you sh**ty kite flyer" See what I mean you can't tell these people so don't get het up. If the dog comes anywhere near you scream "get the fcuk outta here you mutt" It helps if you don't have shave for two days wear shades and smoke fags very intently then the dog owners think you're some kind of hard nut and will quietly disown the dog. (Unless the dog owner is a chain smoking hard nut with a bald head and tatoos in which case disown the kite and make friends with his psycho devil dog by offering it a leg or an arm ) Quote

Yeah I have always taken great lengths to avoid the madding crowds and always someone comes along that either plonks themselves right in my 'zone of operations:D ' so to speak, or Mr and Mrs with dog comes along and makes no attempt to control or call back the dog when its trying to bite you in the buggy or **** on my gear, but we cannot obstruct their right of way or restrict their movement (and that more of a legal issue) we must always give way, like it or not. And if you don't, expect complaints to the Local Authority and whats this a big BAN coming your way soon(unless of course your on private land, and then you can tell them to **** off). Flying a kite in a manner that may cause nusiance or annoyance to other users to the area is the wording of the byelaw (roughly) and that its termed so loosely give vent to instant banning orders. As for arguement, none here, just noticed a few comments before posting. Quote
