hey guys, jus been up to dundee to see my uni and I am a little concerned about the lack of kite spots everywhere is surrounded by trees  so I was wondering if anyone knew any good spots in Dundee, is the beach 20mins any good??

Alright Mate,

I stay in Broughty Ferry which is probably the beach yer talking about, not really big enough for my lack of co-ordination but some bits are alright, there is a grass area in Monifieth which isn't bad(to lazy to drive any distance) which myself and my mate normally go down to. Yer best bet if ye've got a car is St Andrews, only 30mins drive and sooo much better. If ye see anyone strugglin with a blade3 4.9:eek: then pop over. Saying that if ye see anyone with a bullit/blade/north vegas/strike2/yarga then its probably me or my mate, only seen a few other people around this area with kites.

i live in dundee mate and i kite in a park behind my house, up at the observatory. Its a bit lumpy but not too bad.

But i usually go over to St Andrews;. if its a westerly or easterly its worth the 20min drive.

might be of interest,on the forum there is usually a few people meeting up.

if u want to meet up for a fly then just drop me a line - mac

hi andy

which uni is it your at? Dundee University or abertay?

have just graduated from dundee uni but am planning to go back to do a masters.... i have never actually bothered trying to fly in the dundee area, havent really seen a spot that looks like it might be good. If you can get yourself to st andrews there is a good group of regulars who go over and the beach and grassy bit are normally not too bad. gets crowded on a hot day in the middle of summer though!!!

anyway, give me a shout if you want to hook up for a fly.

its very easy to get to st andrews by bus . there are busses every 20 minutes most of the time. if you are just flying without a board kinshaldy beach (by tayport) is fantastic . there is a huge lagoon that empties out to give you loads of space. there are a few places i kite in newport but they are probably no better than anywhere in dundee.

conor have u ever flown up on the hill just off the BP garage, reason i ask is a couple of weeks ago i saw guys flying LEI's there when i was on the way back from St Andrews, cheers mac

Lunan bay is a myth. It does not exist, just go to St Andrews:D

its not a myth:p . its a cracking beach as long as you have easterly winds cos there are 20ft dunes that play havoc with your kite if the wind is in any other direction. as they generally are:mad:

that would have most likely been me and my brother. there and by the big mast as you come off the tay bridge are great for getting huge air. (provided you get some northerly )

its just a field , there are often cows in it so you have to go into the next field slightly around the corner where the direction isnt as good but the hill is steeper! i havent tried it on the board yet because its a bit lumpy in places might be worth a try though.

We've got some friends up in Arbroath, just bit a few miles up the coast from Dundee & you can get there by train. It's a while since we've been up, but i seem to remember the journey takes about 20 minutes.

Anyway at the top end of the town are some grass fields that stretch for about a mile & a half. I dont know about restrictions? the only thing i would say is their quite close to the sea front & there are some big drops towards the sea when you head towards the cliffs!!!!!

So if you do head up that way, just have a good look round before you start flying.

I'm sure some of the local flyer's ull put you right on restrictions etc. :)

No restrictions, just use common sense when others are about.

hey, i used to be a student at dundee uni and app there was an un-official club but i never found it.

im movin back to dundee in bout a month, bit worried bout keepin kiting as its so hard to lug all the kit around when i dont drive. if anyone fancies someone to help share the petrol cost wid, id be happy to.

if you can drive, st andrews is usually blowin offshore but when its not it apparently can be really good.

i lived in newport for years and never realised people kitebaorded round there...i always headed off to st a's!

how long have you guys been kiting round the newport/st andrews way? when i used to be around a couple of years ago(usually on west sands), i seemed to always be the only one out.

i've been flying around St Andys and Dundee for about a year and in that time i've met so many friendly and cool people who fly in the area.

Generally St Andrews is best in an easterly but the prevaling wind is a westerly which can be a bit lumpy but really not too bad.
