hooly Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 hey y'all a friend of mine's brother is interested in taking up kiteboarding. he's fairly impulsive, and has been offered three days of lessons for 300 quid. apparently 'some' of this will be one on one, but not all. that's all I know about the lessons. the guy is 25 and fit but has no prior experience of powerkiting my mate has an old 2m blade so I told him his bro would get a lot more out of it if he at least got to grips with flying a kite first. soooooo I'm mostly looking for views on whether that sounds like a good deal. and for those of you who know me, if you could pm me details of proper, reliable instructors who could offer two or three days training mid-week in the near-ish future, I'd be grateful. the guy's in reading but is prepared to travel for a proper bo lesson or two. thanks, H Quote
DANH1599968671 Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Do you know who the lessons are with dude, a few weeks or maybe months flying with a kite first will definately be an advantage cause he'll pick it up a bit quicker on his lessons, i wouldn't say its essential though when i had my lessons there were 2 guys who had never flown before but picked it up pretty quick. I think most places are around the £260 mark these days for a 3 day IKO coarse but different places offer extra things food accomodation e.t.c. So it all depends what the lessons entail. Quote
jonr1 Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Best get used flying a kite pretty much blindfolded Get used to boarding without the kite then tally up the two take a 2 hour lesson will teach you the basics of flying a kite, hazzard analysis, safety, wind, postioning on board, setting up board and boarding up and down wind and then practise loads till your ready to progress further. Thats my personal experiance for what its worth Quote

hooly Posted June 22, 2006 Author Report Posted June 22, 2006 thanks for the replies I don't know who the lessons are with... they are in poole (which doesnt strike me as a brilliant place to learn????) obviously the guy would be better learning to fly a kite of a period of weeks and months and then progress to going out on the water, ideally with friends that he's made along the way and after some lessons... but apparently he's one of these impulsive people who just wants to hand over some cash and get the product... I don't really know him am just a friend of his brother. can anyone recommend some good schools/instructors? Quote

the_lone_wolf Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 it'll most likely be "thewaterboard" - http://www.thewaterboard.com - they sponsored the SUKS kitesurf club at soton uni and seemed like nice guysbut i've never been down there... poole is flat and shallow and is probably as good a place to learn as any...
