irishextreme Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I have a proteam 8 and would like to get into land boarding. It this kite suitable or do I need a four line kite with bridles and saftey system,I have a feeling I do. Advice greatfully accepted. Quote
Tom_Wragg Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 you will need a four line kite... the proteam 8 would need stupid amoiunts of wind to be able to board with. get yourself a flexifoil bullet or the new flexifoil rage they will be perfect for your first 4line kite hope this helps Tom Quote
Antigrav Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I second that, but look around for a kite first and try some out if you can.People will tell you about all sorts of kites but u'll like some more than others.I know that i dont like bullets for boarding which is just down to personal preference..... have fun...... Howard Marks Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 if the kite can support your weight as u lean back off your board you will find it a lot easier...most of my mates learnt witrh my old blade II 7.8m. Small fast kite are for people who dont like to fly well powered or people who have death wishes..the smallest depower kites that most riders will fly are 6-7m for boarding which is like 3-4 m of fixed power. But if you can fly a kite well then there is no reason why you should go teh old school route of learning to fly with handles...I have heard people on here saying.. Start with a bullet Then get a blade on handles then get a depower! I say if you can fly get yourself a 6m Access and dont bother to learn techniques that you will never use for landboarding such as handles. Plus handles are way more dangerous than a bar with saftey release. Pad up and have fun! Quote
rob87 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I took a bullet 5.5 out along wit a pro team 8. The wind was too strong for the bullet, so I thought i'd just have a play with the pro team. Thought I'd get on the landboard and It got me moving...at a snails place. maybe 0.5 mph at the most! lol. I just use it to play around with. it's good for getting your reaction speeds up, but not really for 'power' kiting. Definately get a depower. I'm looking for one at the moment, not sure which yet. The Geoff Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 I've boarded with a Super10 in stupid winds but it's not recommended unless you're already competent and fancy a challenge (I believe Jason Furness even once won a kitesurf comp with a Super10 because it was blowing a hurricane and nobody else dared go out!) Best kite for you would be something in the 3 - 4.5 region, a Bullet/Rage, Beamer, Crossfire, something like that. Some might say the Blade, but it's not a forgiving kite if you mess things up, and you will! Depower is a nice option sometimes, but most people learn on fixed power - one less complication and a damn site cheaper! Quote
beeflyer Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 I started on a 3m and went through 4 and 5M kites then on to a 6.4M blade and now a 9.5M frenzy, i'd say learn the basics on a 3-4M kite, busters are good and reasonable second hand then see where it takes you. Cheers pete Quote
Husky_Joe Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Its way easier to learn when you over-power, more stable and when you over power and lock-in you can concentrate on your boarding and forget about the kite....for a bit anyway. Blag goes on as many other peoples kites as you can before you commit to buying your own. Depower if the way forward, add/remove power on demand, massive wind range, compaired to fixed bridal. Quote
