markie1599968690 Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Ive heard you can only use Brancaster if you're a club member. Is this correct. If so what club is it and can anyone join? Id really love to go there and try it. Quote
Foggoflyer Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 I've heard that you can pay some sort of day membership,I don't know about this time of year but in the summer it did get abit crowded. You'd be better off going another few miles round the coast to old Hunstanton, no restrictions & loads of beach. Quote
Zero4.BC Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Zero4.bc Ban Buggying & landboarding at Brancaster has now been officially restricted to members only or a complete ban. Unfortunately due to a combination of people flying in the wrong areas and TOO many people using Brancaster beach to fly on, the local authorities have announced a ban on traction activities at Brancaster beach......... This excludes kite surfing….. After numerous meetings with the local council, national trust and other relevant organisations. They have offered a compromise that involves the formation of a club. That must be responsible for its members and all kiting activities that take place on the beach. The club will have no more than 30 full time members. The memberships will be given to fliers who are not only local, but who also can show competence in their abilities with a buggy or board. The club is going to be run by the fully qualified instructors and other regular flyers at the beach. Who will evaluate each potential member to ensure each person is up to a required standard of competence. The list of members is already substantial. As the club has been running officially for a while now and anyone who is interested in joining must be a regular flyer at the beach. We will not be giving a place away to someone who is a non regular flyer at the beach so that someone who will be a regular flyer cannot join. The designated area for fliers is not huge and so therefore safety is paramount and all members must have a good understanding of both kite control and wind condition Members will be issued with an identity card, which must be shown to anyone who asks to view it. There are local authorities that do have the power to remove people from the beach if they think that that person is causing a nuisance to other beach users and or causing damage to the beach and surrounding countryside. This will include club members who are not abiding to the rules set by the club. As before please respect these restrictions for the good of the sport and keeping sites open. There is currently in discussion a sign that will be placed to the entrance to the beach detailing everything stated here. The sign will include the restrictions for kitesurfing. Sounds like ive got no chance of flyng at brancaster then. Sounds like i will never be eligable to join if im not a regular flyer, and cant become a regular flyer unless im a member. Bit of a catch 22 situation. Its a big shame that people new to the sport arent able to fly at this site. I understand the need for regulating this though its just bit disappointing. Never mind will have to stick the smaller beaches in Norfolk I guess. Thanks for the reply. Quote

Like i said earlier why not go to Old Hunstanton, plenty of beach & no hassle. It's only about 15 miles from Brancaster, I know guys who travel from Nottingham just to have a days flying their because it's that good. Lem Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Not sure if the situation has changed, but depending on the numbers present at the beach, I understand upto 5 'day' members can use the area. However, you need to register with zero4bc beforehand using the email address above. Do note that the flying area at Brancaster is quite small, much smaller than say at Old Hunstanton where you can use all the beach. Many people seem to be under the impression that Brancaster is like Westward Ho, which could hardly be further from the truth! Quote

Bran beach is TINY and covered in more shingle, coal and exposed iron works than sand. Its a waste of a good walk getting down to the flying area ... I had written Hunny off until the other weekend but I was surprised when I got down there... Hunny was fantastic.....you could park easily, the beach was huge by comparison (with no restrictions) and the 3 boarders I saw were having a blast...oh and best of all the pub is just over the back of the beach...... markie1599968690 Posted December 19, 2005 Author Report Posted December 19, 2005 Thanks Foggoflyer, i will probably give Hunstanton a go. Quote
jon barrand Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 OMG - Had no idea of the restrictions of this site! I flew at Brancaster the other day (Just visiting Norfolk) - I flew all day and had no problems, loads of other kiters there - no-one said anything to me! Probably won't fly there again or not for a long time but it's strange no-one mentioned that you had to be a club member! You'd think someone would have noticed that I wasn't a familiar face. There was also two of my friends there who arn't members of these forums - Just casual flyers from the area, who fly brancaster regularly. They wouldn't read these post's and therefore wouldn't know about the restrictions! They've never been approached either. Do the rules still apply to recreational Flyers? Quote
