JellyFish Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 what do you lot think about harnesses? Do you find a seat harness or a waist harness better? I have been landboarding for a while i feel as harness is the next step but i dont know which one to get! A waist looks easyer because where the pull comes from but a seat harness looks better for when you are in mid air ? Any help would be great Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I have both! I did start on a Peter Lynn seat harness and quickly moved to DaKine (much more comfort!) Anyhow.....what I find is that with a seat harness you can hold down more power as your center of gravity is lower also you can maintain your edging more. With the seat though it can hinder you slightly with tricks. I kite surf with a seat and have now moved to a waist for landboarding. The wasit is nice but unless you have it pulled real tight, has a tendancy to end up under your pits! nice!! also if you are un balanced and the kite pulls you get pulled straight from the waist (obviosuly) which can mess you up abit, BUT, the waist is better for tricks! IMHO i would buy a cheap seat harness. The black tip? is that de-powerable? Flying on a bar helps heaps too......hope this helps. Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 just noticed a fella selling a dakine speed seat for £20 on the for sale forum? never used a spead seat but in my experiance i spent quite a few times gettin dragged on my ar$e and my nice new peter lynn harness soon became grass stained and battered..... JellyFish Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 thanks mate I have all ready got a seat harness but the bar is very high on it -( just by me nips ) But the lower bar looks better. i have only use it a few time on my Black tip - (yes it is de powerable )- but i use my blade 4m most of the time as th BT is Far to F-Ing scray and i popped it last time i was out. I'm also gettimg a new B3 4.9 in the morning ( can't wait!! ) and it this kite i want the harness for Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 lol o dear!!!! not a good day out popping your kite! my peter lynn (and i belive the speed seat is same?) only had one strap each side to connect the spreader bar to. not trying to push the dakine harnesses, but with the dakine you have an upper webbing strap and a lower each side. i put on the harness and pull the lower ones in as far as i can, the bar then ends up as low as it will go then i pull in the top ones. when connected to the kite it sits around my navel nice and low. using the peter lynn one the bar was always into my ribs and mid chest....not very comfortable! i had blades on a bar and i just didnt like it at all thats why i changed to the frenzy....i would concentrate more on the BT as i think you would progress alot quicker on that Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 o and wasit harnesses look cooler as you can wear a baggy t-shirt over the top and not look like you got an adult nappy on! you can get away with it on water it think!....o one other thing....dont want to put you off your new kite an all that...i had a 4.9 blade and on either the bar or handles with stop connecting them when you hit a gust you just have to either try and anticipate it and brace yourself or you get a nasty pull which either yanks you off the board...or quickly down-wind....neither very good....as i am sure you are aware...with the BT you just ride the gust out.....hope this helps Quote
JellyFish Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 cool man thanks BTW How many kite have you got !!!!!!! Are you a walking kite shop ? Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 haha.....crap at all other sports ie footie, rugby etc so when i got into kiting thought "this is what i am gonna be good at" so its the only sport i am getting quite good at.....only got 6 kites though and one of them is crap! but the rest make up for it Quote
JellyFish Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 6 ! well this time tomorrow i'll have 3 !! nearly there ! one thing i wanted to know - I have flown B3 4.9m and it pulled me all over the place. How on earth do you fly anything more then a 10 Meter with out flying away ?? is there a way of flying the big babys with out killing your self. I have seen bloke my size ( about 10s ) with masive kites being softly being pulled along doing little 10 foot jumps ? I have been over 25 feet in the air with my mate B3 4.9 Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 good on ya! 3 soon turns to 6 once you are sat on the beach and everyone else has changed up or down with the wind and back out on water having fun while you are helpin them launch! anyway....i take it when you say greater than 10m you are on about LEI's? the LEI's fly totally different to the ram air foils....i may be wrong with this, but, as i underatnd it.....alot of the LEI's are not a great design. the design alows it to be water re-launchable but alot of the kite is used up on the sides, so if the kite is directly above you, the only bit really being used it the bit you can see, not really the side at all, that is why the new bow designs are coming out as they use the area better. also, as with all kites, they have a wind range at the bottom end of the kites wind range it is hard work just keeping the thing up at the top end you are struggling to keep your edge in the water, thats why you have lots so you can change down/up in accordance with the wind. the blades are a mid to high aspect anyway i think and as the profile is very flat they are very good flying kite with lots of lift. few....sorry for the lecture but you did ask!!!!!..... buggy nut Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 lol o dear!!!! not a good day out popping your kite! my peter lynn (and i belive the speed seat is same?) only had one strap each side to connect the spreader bar to. not trying to push the dakine harnesses, but with the dakine you have an upper webbing strap and a lower each side. i put on the harness and pull the lower ones in as far as i can, the bar then ends up as low as it will go then i pull in the top ones. when connected to the kite it sits around my navel nice and low. using the peter lynn one the bar was always into my ribs and mid chest....not very comfortable! not only that..... but the PL one is also know as a nut cracker!!! you find it ok untill you try the dakine fusion and then you realise how uncomfortable the PL one is. Plus the PL one seems to fall apart easy Quote
cubik Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 not only that..... but the PL one is also know as a nut cracker!!! you find it ok untill you try the dakine fusion and then you realise how uncomfortable the PL one is. Plus the PL one seems to fall apart easy yea...totally agree....and what is the use of the velcro strap above the spreader bar? the fusion is definatly the way to go....just go my a new black/camo one....very nice! Quote
JellyFish Posted September 22, 2005 Author Report Posted September 22, 2005 thanks for the info looks like it the dakine fusion then ! Happy flying Quote
buggy nut Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 yea...totally agree....and what is the use of the velcro strap above the spreader bar? i never worked that out.... i had a small and when i did the spreader bar right up... the velcro was too long and the 2 bits wouldnt go together so i nearl just cut it off the fusion is nice and will be the easier option as it should fit nicely whatever shape your upper body is... whareas the waist needs to be tried and tested first really Quote
cubik Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 yeah i would go for a fusion....on my second one now! loads going on ebay at the mo. also a spreader bar pad (£10-14) is a good idea just makes it super comfortable. how is the new blade by the way?? Quote
martin Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 what do you lot think about harnesses? Do you find a seat harness or a waist harness better? Ive just started kite landboarding & am considering a back harness for the future that i can use with my handles. They don't seem that popular & there isn't much info about them either but what iv'e seen, i like. (about £20). Anyone out there using one wanting to pass on some info would be good. ( i don't want to waste my hard earned dosh). I like the idea of having the handles up high + being able to just let it pass over my head in an emergency. Quote
