TradeWinds Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I was kiting at Lancing on Saturday and saw all the Abulances and Coastguards going to something at Shoreham.... Does anyone know what happend ?? Quote
x37 Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Totally unrelated but someone ploughed a takoon nova into the road in front of an ambulance at goring gap.. ouch. Quote
spooky Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 On a call? How come they were so close to the road? jon Quote
kitingplasterer Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 i was down shorham on sat and never saw any blue sirens down there, a guy did get pulled into the roundabout by his 12m takoon he was launching, leashed after jumping a parked car. left about 3 though!!! Quote
spooky Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 WHAT!!! Sorry have to ask how close is the "launching" area to the road? Jon Quote
kitingplasterer Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 not very near at all, but the fella was at the top of the beach on the flat and he got pulled quite a way until he decided to leash!!!??? Dont ask me why but he held on, luckily he went inbetween the houses and not into one. http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=522000&Y=104500&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&pc=&zm=0&scale=5000&multimap.x=491&multimap.y=88 Quote
marypoppins Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Chap dragged along Shoreham beach apparently O.K. His mates told me that he had a few cuts and bruises etc and pretty shaken up but had taken him to hosp to get him properly checked out (and surgically remove the seaweed from between his teeth). spooky Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Well first up I was going to winge thiking that the set up area was to close if he ended up on a road/round about? But picture shows there is aresonable amount of room, provide tides not to high (was that pic high or low tide?) and that winds not to strong. Butnow I have seen the picture the fact he went so far before leashing?? Should he/we be launching/landig/flying a kite that high up the beach? NB agin not ssure how high tides go, but if they are o that there is a small area sopeopel are forced up to the top for sapce, should they/we be launching there? Just a thought? Jon Quote
kitingplasterer Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 there is plenty of room regardless if tides in or out, he was just unlucky. The wind was blowing 20+mph and he went to pick up his board and then WOOSH:eek: was back down there this afternoon so must have had all the seaweed removed without problems;) . Quote
jelly man Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 spooky most oif the south coast beach launches are roughly the same and most people launch and land safely all the time.allthoguh i wasnt on the beach on sat i heard that it was blowing 25mph+ and this guy was obviously not experianced enough to hold his 12 so he thoguth hed launch it anyway. his is how itll get banned know ur limits Quote
spooky Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Hi KP, cheers, yes we can all be unlucky at times, I was just more concerned by the fact that he may have been setting up to far up the beach? As to get dragged as far as the round about seems a very long way? So was not sure if either he had set up in the wrong/unsuitable place OR if the launchig areas were not the best but so far everyone had been lucky? Just that over the years I have noticed launching /andings Zones for kitesurfers getting smaller and smaller (ie as close to car parks as possible) insoime case not much bigger than the line lengths!! Meaning that when they launch they need to get it to the Zenith ASAP espcially if powered up? And even then if they stopscudding before teh end of teh space, they find the kite is still over fly obstructions?? Have even witnessed launchs relitivly small areas, only for them to walk across a promanade with people walking along so powered up they need ther mate to hold them down!! Sorry not a safe option? Have fun, Jon there is plenty of room regardless if tides in or out, he was just unlucky. The wind was blowing 20+mph and he went to pick up his board and then WOOSH:eek: was back down there this afternoon so must have had all the seaweed removed without problems;) . Quote
kitingplasterer Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 not sure hpw experienced the chap was but i would say he could have set up lower down the beach, it was very busy but im sure he could have found some room. i dont think he will be launching that afr up again and def not with the 12 in those winds. spooky Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 thats all you ever do though jon With good reason Besides is it winging or high lighting issues that could effect us all, but some just do not give a toss about?? Jon Quote
