Have anyone been there? I'm going there in march and wondering is there any good kite spots?

Not in the ski resort, but there are several probably kiteable lakes within a few kilometers. Unfortunately they are all quite small, typically 1-2 km in diameter, which means gusty wind conditions all around!

The closest weather station is probably Kajaani airport some 25 km away. It should give you a general idea of what kind of winds to expect.

hi, I just returned from finland there are thousands of 'good spots' frozen lakes from 1- 100miles long are much much better than 'ski resorts' they are flat for a start much better when starting out, a friend of mine is opening a snokite school (45 mins from tampere cheap ryan air flights). I would strongly recommend this route as the locals (as usual) have all the knowledge on the best spots, and even more importantly ice knowledge and equipment like ice screws/twin spikes etc. check out the web site I no its in finnish but u will 'get the drift' an english link will b added later. www.hameenhelmi.fi

Hi,

There are plenty of lakes all over in here, but only the big ones are worth the bother as on the smaller ones the wind is gusty or non-existent. You should probably look into driving to Oulujärvi (see the map at http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/kartanhaku/osoitehaku.html;jsessionid=6BE9EFDF8500DF94FCCE8CA9C0542F76.kkp1?scale=800000&lang=FI&tool=suurenna&cx=3529345&cy=7126161) to find better wind. Also, looking at the kites you list in your mail, you might want something a bit bigger (like 16 m2 or so). I use Pso2 17 and Pso2 21 most of the winter and where I live (down "south") winds are generally stronger than in Vuokatti area.

Also, you might want to try asking about the local conditions in the local kite chat at http://sms1.solenovo.fi/surf/kite/keskustelu/. It is all in Finnish, but posting in English will work just as well.

And if anyone is flying into Helsinki then we have a nice frozen sea inlet close by, to have fun on, or even have a quick afternoon session after a business meeting!! Just PM me or Kahis and we can give you the details!

How are you getting to Vuokatti? If you have your own transport then I can give you some places to stop on the way, to have a fly also.

Finland has well over 1000 lakes so snowkiting venues are easy to find!!

Give me your drive route as I live north east of Helsinki and you might be driving right past my town!! I can give you a few pointers of what size lake to look for on Google earth as to which are big enough for clean wind.
