Pilgrim Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Cool trailer, but the two-seater buggy really caught my eye - got any pics of it in action? Quote
Maverick440 Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 Not had a chance yet............. Hoping to give it a test run tomorrow............ Theres some more detailed pictures on the Square meter thread towards the end........... Quote
cooperman Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Out of interest, whats the speed limit when pulling a trailer and how stable are they? Cooperman. Quote
king_of_the_sky Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 60 isnt it? and not sallowed in outside lane on motorways Quote
cooperman Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 B****y hell, thats about a 5hr trip to Pembrey, from where I live. Think I'll stick to taking the buggy apart and stuffing it in the boot then. Quote

Thats not to say that you can't go faster and break the law (if thats your thing!!) p.s. which bit of Hertfordshire are you from then Cooperman Quote
Katamarino Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 king_of_the_sky is right, 60 on motorways, 50 on other major roads. And not in the outside lane if there's more than 2 lanes. Quote
Katamarino Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 As it happens, we have a double trailer too http://www.srcf.ucam.org/cucrc/casual/images/gallery_07.jpg Quote
Maverick440 Posted December 19, 2004 Author Report Posted December 19, 2004 Pull nice at 80mph............... Quote
Skyscraper Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Just a thought, but you might want to consider a cross-brace along the side. It looks strong and I'm sure the welding's fine, but if you hit something you don't want the top buggy arriving through the back windscreen. Also it'll cut down the risk of any fatugue fracture at the joints which considering the weight on them and the vibration in transit... Call me a worrier, but you never know. Happy motoring Quote
Sand-Yeti Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 Good job. I have a different problem here. I got fed up screwing & unscrewing my buggy but had an existing trailer for carrying SWMBO's quad (400cc Polaris scrambler). She enjoys bouncing around the dunes & does provide a great support for us buggiers when a buggy breaks or the wind stops. I rebuilt my trailer to carry both quad & buggy. Beside the obvious that you see in the pics I dumped the original 8" wheels which were supported with silly little elastomer suspensions in favour of 14" wheels (got the spare wheels cheap from a car breaker) with leaf spring suspension. I needed this because I drag it down rough desert tracks. Sometimes SWMBO doesn't come along so I remove the gate, which, also doubles as a ramp to drive the quad on to trailer. I did think about doing something like Maverick440 but if I have the buggy high up without the quad, I was concerned about the stability. This works pretty well & I have the weight fairly well balanced when both buggy & quad are loaded. The front of the trailer does push down on the ball hitch to stop the rattling that Sky dude was concerned about. Here in the UAE we don't require a number plate on our trailers. We can drive the same speed as when we drive without a trailer. Our max. speed limit on the highways (motorways) is 120 kph. Pics show the gate & home made buggy on it (Libre seat). When the quad is removed the buggy lies down & I leave the gate at home as it becomes redundant in this carrying mode. Sand-Yeti Quote

Happy motoring What you cant see in the photos is that the front tubes are made of 30mm stainles tube and set back at 10 degrees, these are then set ito a brace at the bottom, the rear 25mm box leggs are also set at 10 degrees, however one faces forwards and the other backwards and ate again braced top and bottom. This makes for a very rigid structue. As regarding the strength of the welding............ well if it can hold all of this together then i think its fine............................ :D www.redreckracing.freeserve.co.uk http://img.photobox.co.uk/32405256563288b6935f06440dee3ef36cec190de7e2984eb1e8c7ce.jpg Quote

Then take into account loading into car putting together / taking apart buggy. reloading into car unloading at other end cleaning the sand out of car When I get back late on a Sunday night its great to just wheel it into garage and forget about it. vinniedriver Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 That poor trailer looks slightly dwarfed by it's load Quote
