peteb303 Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 ive had some of my worst bumps on sand.. think it can be harder than a grassy field in my oppinion wallis;) I agree especially as they use sand to make concret:eek:. I've never needed elbow pads so don't wear them. I just go for knee pads, some armour and a lid. I have just given my lad my elbow pads to use as knee pads:D. So sods law I will need them now:D . Bigal Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I agree on the helmet and knee pads but thats all you need. I think the whole body armour thing is a bit much. This is supposed to be an extreme sport, your meant to get a few cuts and bruises. If your going for kiteloops on land or something, sure where some hefty protection but for normal weekend riding and jumping wear a helmet, knee pads and try not to fall off. Quote
Ted Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I wear a Dainese suit, 661 knee pads and helmut always. I would now find it very hard to go back to not wearing a suit. The thing about the suit is that it prevents shoulder dislocations (because of the shoulder straps). I had one bad jump landing in July in which I strongly believe that the suit prevented a broken bone. I'm always hitting my elbows and have had some very bad buises there. With pads, my feeling is that you should err on the side of more. Quote
buggy nut Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I always wear knee pads and helmet............. but elbow pads get in the way i find and you dont normally hit them anyway. Quote

"Your not pussing hard enough" i hear u say but i am. i can board off, 720, 360 one fotters all with no pads. Whats all the fuss about. There's a proper extreme sportsman. People are going to far with the body armour etc. Quote
phunkymunky Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I wear elbow pads (and the rest) for skating and kiting (when on a board) and have worn them sking/snowboarding. A few people have said they get in the way but have never had this experience I usually forget im wearing them and have found myself walking round Safeways with them on after a session!! (usually have them under a sweatshirt especially at this time of year) Would rather wear pads and not need them, than not wear them and smack my elbow/knees and have joints swell up/bruise/hurt so much that i cannot straighten arms/legs and this has happened in the past. No skating/kiting for days/weeks or wear pads - EASY CHOICE!!! PS in winter they help to keep joints warm which helps prevent strains/twists etc Quote

Whats the fuss about, maybe the answer is in your user name:D :D Quote
pyromunky Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I just wear a helmet when im boarding i cant do many tricks I can jump and thats about it but it isnt that i dont try stuff that I dont wear pads, I dont wear pads in the buggy either and i buggy jump. I have fallen off my board loads of times and never really hurt myself, it might hurt at the time but not for much longer. Basically you should feel comfortable, if you dont then you arent gonna be relaxed and then you will make mistakes. If you are trying something new which is pretty extreme then you should wear pads if it makes you feel safer, but to tell you the truth I find they just get in the way. Stay safe and have fun whether your wearing pads or not. Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Elbow pads are good in the summer when the grass is rock hard and abrasive to fall on, esp when u have no other cover on ur arms... I dont bother in winter, for the opposite reasons. ALWAYS ride in a lid, skin loss hurts but wont kill you. An unconscious kiter will p!ss on your session, your mates wont thank you... Lets keep the image of this sport responsible(ish) GONZO!! Quote
payneib Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 could do with some knee protection though. Quote
.TheBeest. Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 worn them once, never needed them, dont bash my elbows much. Quote
