If Whitstable flyers are like most others as they are at my local inland site (Sports Field) You only need to ask. I would say 99% are happy to help. Not been to Whitstable yet, but remembering the answers to the post, Whitstable has more experienced surfers. It was suggested Minnis Bay (10mins along the coast) was better suited to beginners. Hoping to get down there soon to see for myself Quote
carlos_climber Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 the day I decide to build a new board ....whitty was blowing 18 mph all day....bugger !!! Quote
Oldnbold Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Had lessons last year and a refresher course Friday at camber .Went to Minnis bay today with a fellow amateur ( never been there before ) .... was a little crowded and paranoid about tangling up with another kite so just did some body dragging and getting the feel of things , was a good ....got real windy and then started to pour with rain so packed up , then sun came out and was perfect conditions ! Belblade ... If you fancy going out sometime for some practice let me know ok, do you have any kitesurfing gear ? I can borrow all the gear 12 mtr oceanrodeo bronco board /harness e.t.c. and need somebody to practice with . BTW what time does car park close this time of year, i went up in week to show a friend how to use kite at 7:00 and said 7:30 on gate so decided against it . Does it change or always 7:30 ? Quote

NeverAlive Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 belblade, I learnt how to kitesurf in whitstable and I can assure you that it is not a friendly learning place... simple mistakes can be rather painfull or costly if you are just starting go somewhere with sand and less groins, saves an encounter with the mussel bed during low tide or with groin during high tide if you can keep yourself upwind, then you can get some really nice sessions there ------------ For Sale: PL Wizzidd TT170 FreeAir 8.9 Quote
RaufD Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I was thinking of heading down to Whitstable this Tuesday - Looks like a healthy North Westerly may turn up. Whitstable does sound a bit unfriendly though (stones and groynes etc) - Is Minnis bay any good in a North Westerly ? Also does it work at high tide ? Any advice about any good beaches in the south east for NW winds would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks, Rauf Quote

If Whitstable isn't so good for beginners, where is... with the conditions you recommend. Quote

NeverAlive Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 As someone mentioned before you can try minnis or reculver, which are just a bit further along from whitstable. They also works with northen winds. Quote
