Ben monday i was just so stoked to be boarding with a mate like dan, pushing each other to the max, and the all out speed racing was incredible on an ATB, so a thrill ride, we got back to base after a few runs and we were both just pumped, plus to see all the buggiers faces was something i shall never forget, imgine you have something like a 4-6m kite up and suddenly this 13m monster closely followed by a 12m monster blast by, edging like mad and grinning from ear to ear - priceless:D:D:D Quote

GaRRy Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 actually, and somewhat embarrassingly, it was us that where diving into the powerzone and staying there, 6ft off the deck or so - we were the most downwind people (no gags about getting drawn downwind, we started there:p) whilst the buggiers were all pootling along with the kites up high, trying not to get lifted out in the gusts, if only they knew if you get the kite low you can slide out the gusts:D:D:D;) Oh I know how to get the kite down low and when I could I did According to GPS hit 45+ MPH a few times on the Monday and I really was not trying that hard as I had changed to a much smaller kite than I would use on a beach due to traffic (travelling whole length of field completely sidewards made me see this was a good idea). It was always with out fail a border that caused me to abort a speed run and raise my kite high (One even lauched his kite straight up to top of wind window as I was trying to pass 20 ft behind him after he had already looked and noticed I was bearing down on him DOOH!!!). Dont get me wrong im not having a go as you have as much right to be there as me but I have been saying for several years now that in a confined area the two different flying styles for kite posistion really do not mix that well. Still great event though Quote

Still great event though lol, looking at the different styles is interesting, i found it hard to predict where the feck to go with most buggiers cause they are all working the kite like lunatics thus taking up all the air space, my kite is either 10ft off the deck to get speed, or above my whilst i'm in the air - simple but effective:D:D:D - i was still amazed at the lacl of collisions, cuased by anyone, at MW - i saw about 3 in the whole w/e Quote
Adrena1in Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 (One even lauched his kite straight up to top of wind window as I was trying to pass 20 ft behind him after he had already looked and noticed I was bearing down on him DOOH!!!)I apologise if that was me. I do remember having a few troubles out in the middle of the field sometimes, once when I had the small kite up and the wind died, once when I had the bigger kite up and the wind started howling. I generally tried to keep the kite and lines on the ground if I was off the board and people were heading towards me, but sometimes I knew I was a right obstacle, standing there in the field with my kite straight above me. But as TLW says, the amount of collisions was remarkably low, so congratulations to ALL kiters, be they on boards or in buggies, for being so careful. Quote
