Alright all.

Well i am going to be getting a kite for my gf and have narrowed it down to 4.

She is a beginner and can fly my 1.6 rather well however this is jst too small for her esp as the summer is here.

She weighs nearly ten stone (shouldnt o said that :p).

SO the kites..

I have narrowed it down to the HQ BEAMER 3.6/5M, BUSTER 4M OR RADSAIL PRO 4M.

This kite will mainly be used by her when im on my 12m but as the wind pics up i will use it when its too much for my 12.

Im thinking the 5 may be too large for her and the 3.6 jst a bit small. Being up here in Shetland i am unable to compare the above so your experiences are valued.

I do like the look of all the above kites inparticular the radsail/beamer however it will be the strongest kite that i go for.. So which one is it??

As usual you views/comments are gratefully recieved.

Thank you

I know you've probably heard this already, but the best way to decide is to find a place which will let you try them out before you buy. Of course I appreciate though that it may be a bit hard given where you live. The only one I have flown (and I own) is a 4m Buster, and it is a great kite. £125 off www.bilboquet.com and it does the job wonderfully. Very easy to fly and adjustable for different amounts of power and lift. Highly recommended. But like I said I haven't tried the others...

The 4m Buster is an excellent choice, and even though they are cheaper than most they are still very well made. The lines and handles are not as good as some, but they can be easily changed at a later stage. I have had my Buster for 5 months and love it.

Find a 2nd hand Blade2 4m m8, you know you want to relive the old blade flying days and you know how much static lift they have. Wouldnt go for the Beamer as its not got any serious R&D in it and doesnt look that well constructed compared with other kites.

I've got the 5m beamer. It's lots of fun in low winds (5mph) and will let you scud a little bit. The lift's crap in low winds, though, and you do have to work it quite hard around the window to get much out of it.

I've flown a little with it, but that was in strongish winds, and it was very floaty. The lines that come with it are great. The bag and handles not so much. The bag shredded after a week, and the handles gave me blisters. I could have bought some neoprene to fix them, but I ended up buying flexifoils w/ kitekillers.

It's much more about the pull than the lift, though. And it pulls like a herd of donkeys (in the good way).

The most forgiving kite in towm is the Joy. It sticks in the air no matter what the flier does. Fantastic in lumpy/gusty wind conditions and enough power/lift to keep even experienced fliers happy.

I have just ordered a 5.5m to go with my 2m and 4m Joys - gutted to see a 2nd hand 5.5m Joyfor sale in the forum.......

The 'kite for all seasons' I always carry is a Blade III 3.0m. Also seen a couple of these up for sale. Fantastic kite and a good size progression for your GF.

So, my recommendation would be a Blade III 3.0m or a Joy 3.0/4.0 or 5.5m

Good Luck

well i've only had my first power kite (radsail pro 4m^2) for a couple of weeks now, so bear that in mind :)

firstly, look at www.bilboquet.com , the price is cheaper than at marionville and they'll ship for free (you might have to pay tax, i had to pay about 15euros of tax shipping it into switzerland).

secondly, the radsail flies nicely, and has quite a lot of pull. the first day i took it out, i figured it probably wouldn't fly as there was virtually no wind (grass blades were just moving a bit, almost no leaf-on-tree movement), but it went up and flew well. the wind picked up a little bit and i got just the tiniest bit of scudding :D

thirdly, only go for the PRO models, the others (apparently) are put together very badly. the Radsail's construction is the top, but it still holds up fairly well.

i found a review somewhere (NOT an online shop btw, despite the website name) where there was reviews for loads of kites (PKD Buster was there) and for the review for the Radsail, they said they prefered it to the Buster, saying the radsail flew better etc. here's the link: http://www.virtualkitestore.com/eolo_radsail_pro_review.htm

Although I was slightly disappointed with the standard of construction (compared to obvious competitors such as the PKD Buster or Ozone's Little Devil which are both made to paraglider standards) once in the air the impression was completely TRANSFORMED. The Radsails Pro flies SUPERBLY. Its fast and extremely responsive, much moreso than a 4m Buster we were flying at the same time. In fact the Pro embarrased the Buster (sorry PKD !!) with its speed, handling and controllable power.

Ive just checked the two shops above and the prices for the Radsail 4m`s are Marionville @ £134.99 plus a free goodie worth upto £35.

bilboquet @ 262.00 euro`s

I`m not sure what the conversion is but i think Marionville has it.
