justin1599968620 Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Hi Cornwall is an awesome place to go kiting, not sure if there are bans at any beaches but when i've flown down there no one has said anything. Watergate Bay is a big Kitesurfing destination thanks to Extreme Acadamy and if you go to their website it has a webcam of the beach. Very long when the tide is out and hard compacted sand "perfect". It's just 5 minutes from Newquay and check out Fistral beach while your there this time of year should not be a problem as no people around really(The webcam available for this one on the "Headland Hotel" website). Perranporth is cracking as you've just been told, about 10 minutes from the town is an airfield that i've done land yachting on, it might be available for buggying. I've not come across any land sites there though. As said beofore i'm a jealous man and gonna have to wait until June for my go down there. Quote
blondie Posted March 17, 2004 Author Report Posted March 17, 2004 I'm staying down near st Just so not far from lands end, great campsite and nice and close to lots of climbing :-) Not to far to get to Gwithian either but was wondering what else is in that area. Watergate Bay looks like it might be a bit of a trek but will see what the weather is like. Cheers for the info Blondie Quote
TallPaul Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Perranporth is huge at low tide if you have an onshore wind - well worth a visit. Quote
Trikbitz Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Perranporth is well good and it has a bar on the beach I will be there at spring bank for a week Quote
blondie Posted March 18, 2004 Author Report Posted March 18, 2004 so what is Perranporth like with an off shore wind? What are the Tides like? do you have to get off the beach for long at hi tide? Quote
KidKernow Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Worst conditions for Perran are southerly winds - everything else is usually o.k. Depends upon time of the month as to how much space there is at high tide. Quote
Bowcaps Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 If you are coming down to buggy, you can't really beat Gwithian. Watergate is good, but because the Extreme Acadamy School is based there, it gets very busy with "learners". I know we all had to start, and perhaps by giving them space it will help them, and allow you to enjoy big beaches. Perranporth is good, but gets a little soft towards the east of the beach and half way along it gets busy with "tourists" from Haven holiday camp. Did you not enjoy Gwithian before? HTH Bowcaps Quote
blondie Posted March 19, 2004 Author Report Posted March 19, 2004 Gwithian was one of the best beaches that I have been on but when you are there for a week it is always nice to be able to go to different places. Quote
jocook Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Fistral is not a good idea....its too small and too busy Quote
justin1599968620 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I know what you mean about size but with the tide out there's loads of space. If it's a good weather weekend there could be a few too many people though, good call jo. Quote
Longtone Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 If you are coming down to buggy, you can't really beat Gwithian. Watergate is good, but because the Extreme Acadamy School is based there, it gets very busy with "learners". I know we all had to start, and perhaps by giving them space it will help them, and allow you to enjoy big beaches. Bowcaps I went to Watergate bay twice last September, both times I was the only Buggier on 6 miles of beach. The sea was full of Kite surfers, and the top of the beach had plenty of kite flyers, but apart from that I had it to myself. Quote
bulletmagnet Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 so what is Perranporth like with an off shore wind? What are the Tides like? do you have to get off the beach for long at hi tide? Penhale corner pumps with an offshore wind all you need is solid 4-6 ft swell, peeling right handers and its heaven Quote
Mouthwash Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 You dont mean Trevayler campsite do you?? Chris Quote
blondie Posted March 28, 2004 Author Report Posted March 28, 2004 You dont mean Trevayler campsite do you?? Chris Yes I do, been going there most easters for 7 or 8 years now but mainly for climbing. Only started buggying for 2 years. Simon Quote
PyroChris Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Sennen should be OK at low tide too? great in a westerly, reasonably long, would be too crowded in season, but might be ok now? Used to surf there once upon a time, but then I was living just south of St Just. Fab!! :>:>:> Quote
