Blade nut Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 been out a few times, and have eventually found the leash to be irritating, but i don't want it off due to the chance of the board getting lost due to current, if i bail. i haven't got a handle on the board, so boardoff spins aren't an issue. but how do you cope without a leash? if you bail, then it must be a mission to get the board back depending on the current. any ideas on what to do without a leash? MBN; has seen his board float far away many times... Quote
Jim_bob Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 you can get a reel leash, my mate uses one and they are pretty wicked, thye dont get you in a tangle and are pretty safe if you come off in the air etc...it also comes back to you in the water. They are quite expensive tho. Just a thought, Jim:D Quote
Blade nut Posted January 8, 2004 Author Report Posted January 8, 2004 i'm thinking more of those guyswho do board offs, and then spin the board, for which, u need to be leashless as it'll get tangled up otherwise... MBN; just worrys about losing his pressiousssss board Quote
NJblade_flyer Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Learn to bodydrag up wind... when you're in the water, bring the kite down on somewhat of the side of the window, enough to give a good amount of pull, then dig the same sided arm that you brought the kit down on into the water and use it to steer yourself up wind. You'll be surprised how well it actually works to get you up wind. Quote
Ozone Razor Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 ill second what NJ said, learn to body drag up wind, you'll soon be riding leashless then. Quote
Blade nut Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 ok, cool, i've managed that before. MBN; had scarey moment where the tide was up wind :S Quote
col Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 agree with the guys above, but i usually judge the conditions if heavy seas i'll put a leash on if its flat i'll ride leash less, also if your not practising board off put a leash on it gives you a bit more confidence in going a bit bigger etc as you don't really have to worry about your board, i lost a board once when riding leashless as the tide was moving pretty quick .. it washed up 3miles downwind in a different bay and a local dog walker handed it in to a local kite shop..and it was in perfect nick Quote
savage Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I never use a leash since I had a bad wipeout and my board 'tombstoned' (stuck in the water). I'd much rather risk losing a board (and have!) than risk getting hurt by the board. Quote
prof Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Col, how can you say having a board leash on when you are going big gives you confidence? If you mess up upon landing you have a board travelling at your body or head at great speed. Which can do serious damage even if a helmet or impact protection is worn. Just learn to body drag upwind. muppetdude1599968590 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 body dragging is useless in underpowered/overpowered conditions and strong rips i never use leash unless its venues with strong currents / cross shore winds as predominantly onshore directions allows for board getting washed in forget body dragging in onshore mush and cold winter months for any length of time interesting debate regards leashes whatever consensus opinion = always wear helmet when leashed up.........................many argue helmet shud be worn always full stop p.s. leashes wont stop you doing spins /loops board offs/ kite loops/handle passes etc etc unless youre into spinning the board in addition..........................................i wish! Tone Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 i dont use a leash because i am too scared of wearing my board.... for good! Quote
muppetdude1599968590 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 tone hows it going - u off to tunisia? Quote
Blade nut Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 heh, ok, well, the leash i got streaches, but doesn't spring, and keeps the board at the end of it, so's not to rip my leg off, but also not to put it through my head. i'll prolly stick to using a leash for now, the real question is, what lets you not use a leash personally? MBN; is full of personal questions Quote
carlos_climber Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Can't keep the dammned thing on my feet long enough...keep mistiming my jumps and dropping the board...can't be arsed body dragging around. Maybe when I learn to keep the board glued to my feet...then I shall unleash. Still makes a good excuse for keeping my lid on. wheee splosh !!! Quote
kiteingcolin Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 going without may be cool, but you WILL ,repeat _WILL loose your board at some time_FACT.!!! buy yourself a bronotti curly leash £30. this is a slow return leash, and it does work! allways wear a helmet ,a wave will throw the board at you at some time, and wear a impact vest ,its a helmet for your body Quote
Blade nut Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 yeh, i got a skate helmet, i've seen ppl waering them, what do u think? not worried bout lookin cool, i do that naturally MBN; is delusional Quote
