Its a nice to trust your buggy at high speed so i suggest saving up and buying a well made one from a manufacturer.you can pick one up for about 200 quid and it costs almost as much to build one.

I dont know whats come over me today,i keep agreeing with people...lol.

the joints aint big so the weld would have to be top notch, not something you'll do in an afternoon so it'll cost you a bit (probably cheaper than hiring the gear though). unless you're skilled with metals and have got workshop access then you'll do a lot better to save away and buy one, £200 2nd hand......

well it would be my dad that would build it and he has alot of tools and he has friends that work in a blacksmiths so could probably get something made up cheap also getting hold of the metal is maybe not so much of a problem cause they have off cuts at his work which are quite long and look strong enough.

thanks for your imput

also when buying wheel barrow wheels do they come with the bearings or do you have to buy and fit them?

ross handling have wheels for £37.95 not including bearing bearing are about £15 extra but you need to machine them to fit if you need the bearing number post what size bore you need and od and can let you know the bearing number

There are comprehensive plans with some nice CAD work.

I gave up and got Santa to bring me a Flexi Buggy.

BTW if you go to the home pages there are some nice pics and plans for a series of homemade kites called "Vortex".

Please dont go down the plastic drainware road, When that stuff shatters you might as well drag yourself over sharpened stakes.

Have a go at welding at least if it breaks at 30mph the most you'll probably get is the bad grass stains we all get :D

Hi Commander ,yes homebuilts are possible, like everybody has said its not quite as easy as u may think. The stainless tubing is not that much, what costs is the wheels and tyres and seat.Still to give u some idea of what a home made buggy can look like HERES MINE

Consider a kit build if you aren't sure about welding and how to bend thick tubing (decent tube is too tough for regular pipe benders). Squaremetre supply their powermax buggy as a kit including everything except wheels and seat from £160 unpainted, and they have cheap 20mm wheels now too so for just over £200 + paint (extra for their system or use hammerite or something) + seat (cut some seatbelts out of scrapped cars and weave them?) you can kit build a buggy fairly well equivalent to a V-max. I actually spent quite a bit more to get a more custom buggy that will take bigfoots but the parts are great!

dont believe the sceptics :) it is worth doing. My first buggy was made of an old climbing frame, and it worked ok. When I got to Oz I did it properly and came up with this:

I got most of the stainless as scrap (lucky me!) so the only cost was the wheels and seat. I have since put other rubbish on it like a back rest and speedo, but what you see in the pic cost me about 130 quid all up. The only not-in-your-average-shed tools I needed was a laythe and an arc welder

If you've got any qyestions the ask here or PM me :)

edit: sorry for the huge pic i'll try and shrink it later
