mgs Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Picked up a copy of the latest powerkite mag.Read it from cover to cover, some interesting reading. Quote
Rivertay Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Is it just me (old and knackered) but the type face is too small to comfortably read...???? Quote
mgs Posted October 28, 2003 Author Report Posted October 28, 2003 On page 6 it mentions about the bans currently in force and that Pendine sands was a banned beach I thought it was Pembrey sands that was closed at the moment, can anyone confirm this. Quote
HD462 Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Yeah, I mentioned it too on the other PowerKite Mag thread. Seems it was a misunderstanding, Pembrey is where the ban is. Quote
mgs Posted October 28, 2003 Author Report Posted October 28, 2003 There was a thread about Pembrey somewhere what was the latest regarding the re-opening of Pembrey. Quote
HD462 Posted October 28, 2003 Report Posted October 28, 2003 Dunno mate, I've never been to either of those beaches. I just know of the Pembrey ban from what I've read. Quote

Man_in_UK Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 I had trouble finding anything to read in this mag ! I find more interesting reading spending 5 minutes in this place. Half of it looked like it was ripped out the Flexifoil book and the other half was pasted off advertising flyers. I didn't mind paying cash for the first two but this one was a letdown. Quote
bad dad Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 good photo on the front of the mag.just the thing to promote safe buggying,no helmet and no foot ware =lack of respnosibility . Quote
mgs Posted October 30, 2003 Author Report Posted October 30, 2003 Yes your right about the front cover, its not a good advert for the sport. Quote
Poseidon Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Totaly agree, It's about time that people take safety seriously! Perhaps the governing bodies should impose the no helmet, no isurance rule! Quote

Perhaps the governing bodies should impose the no helmet, no isurance rule! How would you police that? Your insurance is 3rd party by the way. and as such is to cover the 3rd party not you. If you say that insurance is void due to no helmet the 3rd party would be the one to lose out and would have to try to sue you for compensation. At organised events rules like no helmet no flying are fair enough. But on a deserted beach with mellow winds it should be personal choice. Helmets are a good thing and I wear mine always when flying and advise others to do the same. Quote
bad dad Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 why would you want to police it. common sencse dictates you wear one for your own safety.i hate wearing mine but always do. Quote
belblade Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 was not to impressed with the mag either was going to read it on the plane saturday but will have to find something else Quote
rasga Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 I liked it . . though it could have been a whos who from the flexi forums! As to cover shots i guess they need some good hi quality shots. . . i think all the covers have been from manufactures (ozone and advance). . . Quote
john watkinson Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Hiya, initially pleased with having a Kite mag but found 3rd a bit boring....on a personal issue, I'm sick of seeing my local field on every other page!!! Another mention of or picture of Easterfield Lane and I will get real mad..............it's on a hill top...it's dead gusty AND it's normally full of The Flying Doctor's students !!!! John.............my feet are a bit pale for buggying bare foot and I like wearing my helmet cos it hides my receding hairline:p Quote

Poseidon was proposing the governing bodies should impose a no helmet, no isurance rule! I was trying to point out that it would not work. Any hoo, this thread is about the mag and we are getting a bit off topic. I think it has a fairly good mix of stuff. Liked the snow kite article, I bought some skis during the summer, hope we get some decent snow this winter so I can try them out. Quote
matthew1599968613 Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 I find the mag to be a really good read and I don't even have a kite yet!(is there a good time of the year to buy a kite?) Issue 3 wasn't as good as 1 and 2 but thats probably because I wasn't interested in some of the topics Quote
Dr-Manic Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 issue 2 promised that issue 3 would have a feature on Airbourne kites and there flyin antics. ive been through the mag cover to cover its not there Quote
rasga Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 maybe they were expecting the article to come in, but it wasnt written or long enough, or have high enough res. photos to go along with it. . . . . . . . Quote

rasga Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 depends whether powerkite were writing the article or whether the brighton lot were writing it not everything is written by the PK team Quote
jedi Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 I think the powerkite mag is a truly decent read, its very informative and a handy guide to have with you. The fact that its the first dedicated kite mag I think its top notch. I'm not on this forum 24/7 so I don't share the same experience of 'recognising' everyone from here in the mag, but still, information has to come from somewhere! The stuff about safety, yes being safety conscious is good, but like the guy said earlier it isn't enforcible, so people will have to just take their own risks, which is what extreme sports is all about anyway, if the risk wasn't there no-one would do it! If we get too safety conscious we'll have professional tiddly winks players wearing safety goggles - just in case! Each to their own i say! Finally, on the mag sid eof things, for someone new to the sport, its a very good read, it'll tell you all about the sport, give handy hints, ads for shops and contacts numbers. If you are experienced then chances are you don't need the mag so much, so don't slag it off, be nice about it, if its not your cup of tea don't read it! Well done powerkite mag - its a winner. Quote
sam_darke Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 I'd like to read some power/traction kite mags, but can not find them anywhere! Where do you get this type of mag from? Smiths, Jarrolds, I've looked in all the good mag shops and nothing! Also what sort of titles should I be looking for? What are the good ones? I'm particularly interested in recreational, fooling around with Blades and Landboarding. Quote
