windstorm Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 I regually use http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ to check wind speed etc, they have a realtime type map which you can click on to get Wind Speed / Direction etc info in your area along with some detailed history info. The site is also WAP enabled so you can check how things are progressing via your mobile. Does anyone else know of any sites that are similar / better ? WindStorm West Sussex........... Quote
windstorm Posted September 16, 2003 Author Report Posted September 16, 2003 If your looking at the site late at night, some of the feeds for certain area's are switched off. It's better to look during the day/evening as alot more metering stations are live. Quote
4x4xFinch Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Check out Horley_Kite_Nut 's thread on Internet Kite Links http://www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11225 I like Xc-Weather and Metcheck.com Simon Quote
caktus5 Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php is not bad.... for 2 or 3 days forecast. After, well.... hard to tell it's good Quote
neilmac1210 Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 http://www.weather.co.uk gives you hour by hour forecasts of your local weather. Goes by your postcode. I've found it pretty acurate. Quote
rjw Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 i like the first one xcweather. very accurate providing there is a station or buoy or whatever near you. rjw Quote

windstorm Posted September 20, 2003 Author Report Posted September 20, 2003 http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php is interesting, I wonder how accrute the predictions are. I'm doomed anyway, everytime it looks promising out I head for the beach and by the time the kites up the wind just dies. Prehaps my nick should be windkiller rather than windstorm. Has anyone found the tide makes any difference to the wind ? Quote

windstorm Posted September 21, 2003 Author Report Posted September 21, 2003 The shoreham sites very good, especially as I live close by. Theres another one for littlehampton, http://www.littlehamptonport.co.uk/default.asp?goto=weather but the wind measuring device thingy seems to be busted at the mo. There must be quite a few of these local weather station sites around anyone got any more. Quote
PyroChris Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Yup I have one for Richmond Park flyers, with the instruments located in Chessington, about 4 miles away. http://weather.thehartleys.org and also working on a more realtime (updated every 15 seconds) version at http://weather.thehartleys.org/realtime.htm Cheers, Chris Quote
