bottom Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Hey people, whats the blade 9 like with vps. mainly i want 2 know how well it turns i know how much reducing ur arm reach with a strop can effect its turning, but how much does a bar? Quote
bushflyer Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 is this so you can go out in 40 mph winds as opposed to the 20mph you've been managing on handles:D for some reason... I dont believe you Quote
Adrena1in Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I recently had a 9.0 Blade 2 on VPS. It was set up this way when I bought it, and I flew it a couple of times in nothing higher than about 5 to 7 mph of wind. I'm not a fan of flying on bars really, so I converted the Blade to the standard bridle and put it onto 4-line handles. Straight away I noticed the kite turned far slower, even when I executed full-brake turns. I also missed the ability to pull the bar towards me to increase the power-delivery from the kite, which was very noticeable with VPS. I would've put it back on VPS had I not sold the kite. So I would recommend it. Quote
bottom Posted September 10, 2003 Author Report Posted September 10, 2003 cheers m8, ill think about getting one around christmas, kinda out of money at the moment. p.s bushflyer ur really anal, have u consulted ne one? Quote

Guest NEWBOY Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 The VPS`d 9m is a superb bit of kit. If set-up well it turn`s quite rapido.. Around 10/11mph this kite just come`s alive..but it`s still good in the 5 - 8mph range... Quote
HiAsAKite Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 9m blade in 17-23mph......? All I can say is I hope you were on water because its going to feckin' hurt........ I'm 12st, and in 20mph (my estimate.. lets say somewhere between 17 and 25mph.. but it was coastal so wind strength was steady with no gusts) I am overpowered on a B2 4.9 (ie I cannot walk backwards with it at the zenith, and twitching of the kite results in being lofted upwards and drifting downwind, or just being dragged downwind..... ...its called being overpowered for a reason... I put it away and got my 3m out....... 9m in 20mph? you must be one lardy b@st@rd... Quote
Hosey Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 i dont know much about the VPS setup. Wot sort of kite size is it worth using one on? I have a 4m BIII and i fly it on handles. I have a harness and strop for the (hopefully) higher winds that should be approaching with the change of seasons. Could i put a VPS on my Blade, or is the kite too small to bother? Cheers. Hosey Quote
Guest NEWBOY Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 They don`t do a VPS for the Blade 3 series..and it was for the 4.9 and up size`s.. Quote
Hosey Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 i spoke to a guy at the Bristol kite fest from Flexifoil about the vps, and (as i remember) he said that the VPS would work on the BIII's, i just forgot to ask about sizes, and power gain/loss. I guess i'll stick to me strop/rope Quote
HiAsAKite Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 It may be possible to VPS a B3, but you will have to re-bridle it to enable to change angle of attack correctly, instead of just braking or unbraking...... The hard part is designing the bridle... Quote
Adrena1in Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 The VPS bridle for the Blade 2s wasn't exactly complicated. You put some knots in the leading edge bridles to tuck the nose down, replaced the main secondaries and replaced the entire brake. The major part of the bridle, the main primaries, was left alone. A similar thing could probably be done quite easily with the Blade 3s really. Quote
HiAsAKite Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 In principle yes... but do you know how long to make the lines so that the kite performs well at both high and low AoA?..... 50% (ok, statistic plucked out of thin air.. but you get the idea) of the kites aerodynamics from the bridle holding it in the right shape, so if you mess with that.... I guess what I'm saying is that physically making the bridle is not a problem, its just knowing what to lengths to use... Quote
bushflyer Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 buy yourself a UDS system from http://www.paraflysurf.ch . this alters the entire camber of the wing making depower on blade III's possible. he also offers them fitted. give him a mail. p.s. like the new look forums. Quote
