bottom Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 yeah blade 9 is amazing im 55kg, i was flying it today just using my new bump and jump harness 1-4 mph wind and getting air 10ft etc. dont go out with it in 28mph gusts u kinda do stupid sized jump that hurt. 6-7m...up and i only just manage to land in the same feild, ****in amazing, i could move from shear adrenaline! rock on Quote
Adrena1in Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 My condolences to your (soon to be broken) legs. Unless you're sensible and don't fly in more than about 4 mph winds. Quote
Peter Pan1599968576 Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 I'm thinking about standing underneath the space shuttle at lift-off. Will I get burnt? Quote
bottom Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 hey the wind picked up, what was i suposed 2 do pack it away? 4 mph is a **** wind ne way even for a 9m kite, 10 is more like a descent wind. kites can be safe in most winds if ur careful and any good, dont be pussys ive been flying for 5 years and neva broken ne thing or even had a sprain. live life on the edge. Guest Elindel Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 if you live life on the edge for too long it tends to come back and bite u in the ass Quote
bottom Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 i will wear special pants so that dont happen, and a harness! Quote
Peter Pan1599968576 Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 You bounce better when you are 18 yo. I am just sick of children asking questions that they already know the answers to. "Can you jump with a 9m Blade?" If you don't know what this kind of kite can do, you are not in a possition to think about buying one. If you do know, don't askl stupid questions on the forum! 14 yo. 45kgs. 9m Blade! Accident waiting to happen. An old salior once told me "no matter how much you think you know, never forget the sea is your boss." I think it translates! Quote
Fabos Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 An old salior once told me "no matter how much you think you know, never forget the sea is your boss." Yeah, Mother nature will always win in the end!! Quote
bottom Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 but its an extreme sport so you always take the risk Quote
nuggs Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 I suppose there is one good thing, jtr999 is in Belgium, so WHEN he smashes himself up it shouldn't cause a ban on kite activities in the UK as so often happens when people bite off more than they can chew. Just got to remember, up to a few months ago the Blade 2 was considered to be one of the best kites in the world (arguably) and it seems lately that because it has been superceded by the blade3 it is now being treated as if it is a beginners kite.......madness!! that's my 2 pence worth.......... ain't worth a lot!! altitude Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 The 9m would be a great kite if we were still living in the past. We now however have the option of going for the Blade 3's. I say option, there is no option, the 8.5m Blade 3 will have you hanging around for ages still having the speed of a Blade 2 6.4m. You will be able to hang onto the 8.5m in more wind than the 9m even though the 8.5m will pull more. This is because the 8.5m does not pull as much on the edge but moves quicker so you get a much more violent pop. Do be careful flying in more than ten miles per hour with any kite this big can be hazadous to health. If you excercise caution you will be able to get some wicked air check out http://www.xabk.cjb.net soon for some crazy stuff going off in Brighton Good luck with whatever you decide to go for Altitude XABK - Push the limits Quote
Adrena1in Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Glad to hear altitude saying that...I agree whole-heartedly. The Blade 3's do pull less when held at the edge of the window, but because they move faster and turn faster they're a lot easier to control. My 8.5 certainly turns a little quicker than my 6.4 used to, and this afternoon I easily managed 10 feet straight up in about 12 to 15 mph gusty conditions. What's more, I came down really slowly, (much to my relief!). I wouldn't say the Blade 2s are "not an option" though...I'd be very torn between a 6.4 Blade 2 and the 8.5 Blade 3 if I had to have one to keep for good. Quote

bushflyer Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 one of the two best riders in the country has landed himself in hospital. i s'pose you think you can outdo him too? lets see how you manage that 9 from a wheelchair. stop being so immature. 9m + 20knts (-depower)= 1 big mess. Quote
bottom Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 U knob i dont want 2 out do the best riders, i got my blade out today about 17mph. if u take ur time and are careful with it then u can be safe, if u practice and practice and get ur breaking right u can bring that kite down in an instant Quote
altitude Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 The most we have done is 23mph witht he 9m. We had about six people all experienced flyers on the case if anything was to go wrong. We had a half the people up wind holding me back and the rest spotted downwind, the launch was fun and after two jumps we had to land the kite to get back up wind. If done correctly and with respect you can have a wicked time. Every time you launch a big kite and for every second it is in the air you should pay it all your attention, if you dont you could end up hurting. Accidents can always happen but you can minimise them by taking your time before testing the elements. Flying in windy conditions with large kites can be stupidly dangerious but damn good fun if done properly. altitude XABK Quote
bottom Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Is what i was saying, thanks m8. Its fun if ur do it carefully and its safe Quote
bushflyer Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 how much do you weigh? i s'pose you had a back up crew of six too did you:confused: a 14 yr old flying a 9 unassisted in 17mph? this i gotta see Quote
bottom Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 im 17 and weigh 67kg with 4 other flyers who are all damn good and about 10 people watching ie: people with dogs. so not 5 people but damn close Quote
