Wind Things Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 4.0 Blade would be the thing to use for now allthough you'll possibly be wanting something bigger and more stable for jumping later - perhaps a 6.4 to compliment your 4.... Any way. 4m Blade in 10 - 15 mph wind will get you a good bit of air. Jumping with the board is the same principle as off your feet. Try it till it's comfy on your feet first though. Start with the kite at about 1o'clock if you're jumping/traveling left to right. start to run to the right and slightly up wind, as soon as you're going, turn the kite back accross the window to about 11o'clock. You have to feel for the right time to leave the ground.... as you do get air, pull on your lead hand (your right in this direction) and that will bring the kite back over your head for a nice floaty landing. With the board, same thing. Head slightly up wind with the kite high (1o'clock) and repeat all the steps above. Try to hold down the power till the last minute and be sure to point your board slightly down wind as you land. Be prepare to get rid of the board if you don't think you'll land it right. Lot's of protection is worth havin too. Best regards Stuart Quote
hasbin acharlie Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 hi rasga, i cant add any more except dont try it at speed for a while, (up to you tho) ive started doing jumps myself the going up is the easy bit... learn to land em before you go for height. try going along at a gentle pace at first and just jump, only a foot in the air ( youl see why i say this) dont try to get lift from the kite. youl notice your body wants to twist before you land. thats the point at which you will feel like ditchin the board. once you done that a couple of times, use the kite for lift. i find most of it is timing and having the confidence to keep hold of the board. i can land em now without fallin off most of the time, and continue. but still cant take off and land so i can go back in the direction i came from as one fluent motion, which is wot im aiming for... ive got a mate to video me attempting the jumps so i can see wot im doing wrong. if you have a video cam, or access to one you might find it usefull to do the same? its a good laugh watchin em too!!! good luck n have fun Quote
tarlach Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 scrub easy rider I have that board and its actually really heavy,i tried out a freinds kheo air-s and its way easier....... Quote
rasga Posted January 23, 2003 Author Report Posted January 23, 2003 well um that was a useless post tarlach. . i know its not the lightest board around but its all i have, and im the only boarder in my location (kitewise) though it is lighter than a mongoose. . boy those things are heavy! Quote
Boardstupid Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Wind things has it spot on rasga. Follow that and you cant go wrong. Ive been jumping with a 4m blade and a scrub easy rider. Great kite and a great board not the lightest but almost indestructable. Dont race at it though, go slowly build up your time and height slowly. Remember a daft jump in the early stages may put you out of action for a long time. Good luck Boardstupid Quote
The Flyin Scotsman Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I've been boarding for a few months now with my 3.3 blade1 and 6.4 blade2, for accelleration and explosive jumps the 3.3 is nice, but for long cruising and floaty jumps my 6.4 is perfect I'm now able to land most of my jumps and am planning on trying some grabs or 360's for that added style factor. Just try what everyone else has suggested, i find it easier to run ever so slightly more downwind just before jumping which gives that bit of extra speed before steering a bit more upwind and popping up. There are some movies on KitePlanet.net of some different moves. Quote
