I am 15 and 10 stone. what kite and tt board should i get? thanx Quote
tom1599968574 Posted December 19, 2002 Report Posted December 19, 2002 it depends if your gonna use it for both surfing and buggying. i used to fly and buggy, your blades and skytigers are fine for that. When i started surfing and mountainboarding, i just used my blades. This is ok to a point. You need so much power to surf, especially if your gonna go for big air. Having a blade on handles gets a bit silly at this point. Ive been so overpowered with a 7.2 that i couldnt walk backwards by myself. a guy with a bigger arc slapped on his depower and strolled past me. After that i got some LEIs! The depower is essential. You can take a very big kite out with bags of power, slap on the depower and concentrate on learning to get the board on and set yourself up. I would say that if your learning, you need something with a depower. Now i know what im doing and dont have to think about the board, i have just as much fun with a blade on handles, straight from the buggy bag(except for my x2!). if you dont fancy the cost, get the vps for your blade, it will make learning a lot easier! As for what kite and board, You need to talk to someone who knows what their doing and can best advise on what size for your normal conditions. Otherwise, 12m flat is not a bad size for a decent breeze. with boards, a big one (180cm) will be easier to learn on, i would say get a smaller one, as soon as you learn the basics, you will want a small board to do tricks on. theres enough out there, take you pick! savage Posted December 19, 2002 Report Posted December 19, 2002 You could do worse than a Litewave 169 as a board. Convieniently I'm selling one second hand... Kite-wise a four line, depowerable kite is easier to learn on than 2 line kites like your Blades, but lots of people have learnt on Blades and they're great for surfing with. Probably best not to go for anything too aggressive to start with as you'll be concentrating on not falling off! Whatever kite and board you go for just get stuck in and spend as much time on the water as possible and it'll fall into place. Quote
col Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 First off GET YOURSELF A LESSON you'll be taught safely and can go away afterwards and learn safely......for your weight a 10m flat would get you going in 12mph on say a 169 lightwave..a lot depends on your kite skills you might be able to handle bigger ..as a rough guide people 12stone about a 12m flat kite over that 15/16m flat but as your resonably experienced 10/12 second hand about 2/300 quid..storms are cheep at moment and are intermediate to expert kites so you won't grow out of it...i've had 12m storm up in 30mph winds and had no real problems but i am 15 stone...then again i had a 18.1 mach 1 up in 28mph when all the other wimps were on 9meters..col GET A LESSON Quote
tarlach Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 hmm i was thinking of getting a storm 8 but im 11 stone and aroun 6foot so i might get a 12?? Quote
Guest mdkiteboarder Posted December 30, 2002 Report Posted December 30, 2002 Definitely get at least 3 to 4hours instruction, learn to water relaunch, sail upwind without board etc. I used 4m blade and mountain board for 12 months, had 4hours instruction on water and now use 12m Naish X2 and Undergound Wavetray 137 mostly. It's not that difficult once confident flying, just make sure your safe. Quote
kiteingcolin Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 kev !! you'r doing it agiain watch the rugby if your bored, Quote
harry_a Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 get a board which is at least 135 (150 is ideal really) and get yourself anything from 04 or newer which is 10-12m for a kite Quote
kevob Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 lol:D:D:D:D:D so a storm 8m would be no good then:confused: Quote
morleyman200 Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 i got a 8 vagas o5 model and its great. boarding is good on it too. i have yet to be on the see. but i imagine that if its asy to sort your self out on a board the surf wont be that dificult. i am 9 stone so 8 mite be a bit too small. Quote
Hentex Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Learn on a board that you wont have to throw away after your plaining.. 169 pah waiste of time. unless you weigh 20 stone. I learn on a 136 at 12 1/2 stone and I was up and rolling after half an hour. Get a lesson on the big board if thats easier but dont waiste money on one. 10m Bularoo is a good price and a decent kite. You'll be well powered with one of them for sure. otherwise a 9m tribal 1/2.
