broraboyan Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/20/uha9uhuq.jpg Here's one I made the day, cut it out of scrap formica sheeting and stole the shape from north skim fish, ready for bending over the weekend and I'll put the foot straps and maybe some grip stuff on top.will post another pic when it's done Quote
broraboyan Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 Box of nails on the top of where it's sitting on two bits of 4x2 that'll take it down 50mm , it has a curve in it at the moment but not enough to board with. Quote
peet Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 A local rider made a great one with 2 thin sheets of ply (perhaps 2-3mm) with an inner layer of polystyrene i think. had a go on it, rode really nicely! Quote
broraboyan Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 I thought I'd give the formica a try, it's should be okay in the water as it's a marine ply base, not sure about putting fin s on it , we'll see.I'll have a look at it tomorrow to see if it has curved, when I put the box on it it never touched the work bench, fingers crossed it will be touching in the morning:) Quote
stevethane Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Just add more weight or use clamps Quote
kite-uk Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I short cut this and bought one interesting though all the same. Quote
broraboyan Posted September 20, 2013 Author Report Posted September 20, 2013 The cutting was getting binned, will try it and see, its just my time involved. Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 Leave the foot straps off. It's a light wind toy so you don't need straps. They just get in the way and stop you putting your feet where you need them for ollies, kick flips, ole spins, butter slides and anything else you might want to try! The shape looks fun, just wax it up. You don't need lots of rocker either, just a bit on the nose to stop it catching. You can steam a curve into marine ply but it's a bit of a variable technique... Better to fix the rocker with a bit of glass, but honestly that's just overkill on a ply board. It'll get some rocker as you start riding it. Very satisfying to ride something you made, have fun Quote
broraboyan Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 Well I tried it out today, what a surprise brilliant fun, was on the twin tip for 3ish hours wind died couldn't be arsed setting up another kite, stuck with the twelve and was really surprised how much fun the board was . make your own it's good fun :-) Quote
