gazxtreme Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Perfect example of how not to do it. 1, Flying tethered, so many examples of serious injury already on you tube it astounds me that people still try this. 2, unfamiliar with the safety system resulting in the inability to release the kite on to the safety. 3, inability to assess the weather and wind range of the kite being used. 4, grabbing hold of lines is a great way to lose or burn your fingers. 5, walking inside the wind window of an out of control kite is a good way to decapitate yourself 6, if you were not tethered you could have wiped out that family down wind of you. Hopefully a lesson was learned from that session, kites of that size are not toys. Quote
tom wwestbury Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 man that is dangerous to watch:D Quote

snowkiter17 Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 So i got this kite used (venom I). Im used to foil kites so i wasnt used to the PL style, since it was used it didnt come with lines only a control bar and harness loop. We bought new lines but there is no safety system. Can anyone suggest what to get for this kite for a safety system so i dont end up killing myself. Appreciate it! Ira Quote
gazxtreme Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 You really need to fly it on a Pete Lynn bar ideally but a bar from any depower kite will at least give you a chicken loop with a safety release and somewhere to attach a leash to flag the kite out when you release your chicken loop. I would go for a bar at least 55cm in length or else the kite may turn too slow. Quote
heres jonny Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 People like you get all us responsible flyers banned from every decent location on the UK ... There is so much information in safe flying all over the internet and magazines, that it honestly is hard to believe how completely stupid people still are ... flying a kite in high gusty wind, on a bodged bar and lines, with no safety system, on a field surrounded with trees, people downwind of you, tethered, with no helmet on, and clearly not having even the most minuscule idea of what you're doing ... and then posting a video as if you're proud of it Go take up a different sport please... Jeez, there's no wonder that local authorities are banning flying from their fields left right and centre ... Quote
Batz Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Americans. What can you say. They're almost as bad as boyzas in Canada. Quote

gazxtreme Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 something just occured to me....... you didn't rig the lines the same as your 4-line fixed bridle kite did you??? Quote
Spock Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 the only thing you did right was to get video. it's a start Quote
crabman Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 something just occured to me....... you didn't rig the lines the same as your 4-line fixed bridle kite did you??? On closer inspection it does seem like he's at least rigged the lines right. Besides I think an ARC rigged the wrong way would be impossible to turn. It looks like the kite is reacting fine to steering input. I just think the guy needs a bit more of a clue about what he's doing... Quote
ViralEye Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Man that was shocking!!! Such a large kite for such a small boy without a clue what he was doing I'm newish to Power Kiting but even I'm not that stupid! Quote
snowkiter17 Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Wasn't expecting so much criticism for this.... oh well I guess I'll search elsewhere for someone willing to give me advise rather than telling me to give up the sport. I thought that was what this kite forum was for. Quote

Mr Jones Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Wasn't expecting so much criticism for this.... oh well I guess I'll search elsewhere for someone willing to give me advise rather than telling me to give up the sport. I thought that was what this kite forum was for. I'm not going to criticise you, or tell you to give up the sport. I think the best thing for you to do is find an experienced kiter in your local area who's willing to show you the basics, and teach you to fly safely. I strongly recommend you get hold of a proper peter lynn bar and safety system. I wouldnt ever fly a kite (especially of that size) without being able to kill the power when it goes wrong, and believe me, it WILL go wrong, even when you are experienced. Choose the right conditions to fly in. No conditions are safe without a safety system, but when you do get set up properly, i'd recommend 10mph is your limit as a beginner so you can learn how your new kite behaves. Also a lot more space than you had in that video and do not fly if there are people down wind from you. There is a lot more i could say, but you really need to do more research yourself, and also you will learn a lot more if you fly with other experienced kiters. My final and probably the most important bit of advice, is never ever fly tethered as you were in that video. It is extremely dangerous and could easily end up with you killing yourself. Good luck next time, and please fly safely Quote

Krazy Kiter Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) Wasn't expecting so much criticism for this.... oh well I guess I'll search elsewhere for someone willing to give me advise rather than telling me to give up the sport. I thought that was what this kite forum was for. your getting advice. mainly "dont be a complete fucking idiot" what did you expect? a round of applause and a handshake for a video of you doing everything wrong is such a dangerous manner? heres some advice. 1) Google "peter lynn zero 4 bar" and have a look at the images. thats a good set up for a peter lynn kite. you need a safety leash to go with it. 2) Make sure your lines are strong, about 250kg (each) is good. 3) NEVER FLY TETHERED. too many people have died. 4) helmet at least. pads are good. 5) find yourself a new kitespot. somewhere with lots of open space and not many trees. You want to give trees at least 2 lines length clearance downwind. 6) dont do stupid stuff, take a video and expect praise from responsible, sensable kiters. or you can ignore this, and end up hurting yourself. please do video that. snowkiter17 Posted April 25, 2011 Author Report Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks, that's better. I will be taking Kiteboarding LESSONS in during the summer and for the record, I have been kiting for over a year and I am very experienced with my 8m access which i have been flying a lot so I'm not a complete n00b. Only with the Peter Lynn. Also, my father is the "engineer" the one trying to figure out how it works, unfortunately i'm just the guinea pig. thanks for the advice. Quote
