Guest Nathaniel Marc Fuller Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Looking at getting a trampa deck to replace my flexifoil flexdeck as its about to snap. I'm having a bit of trouble deciding on which one to get though. Short,long,kiteboard,mountainboard,15deg or 30deg. What diffence do the variables make? I use skate trucks and im 16.5 stone, should i go for 14 or 15ply? Quote
sista Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 A short trampa kite deck would be lighter and better to handle when you use it for freestyle jumps. 15°s decks fit for skate trucks, 35°s decks for channel trucks & Co. 15 ply are very stiff, even for your weight I guess. The 14 ply deck with your weight will be kind of firm to flexi... depends on what you prefer. Quote

Twisted Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 As above give ted a shout. Im about 12st and have a long 14 ply, they are quite stiff, but i shortened the board and cut loads off all round, about 5-6cm either side in the center to get the flex/weight i wanted. Flex is down to preference but long board for cruising around and short for freestyle. Quote

Guest Nathaniel Marc Fuller Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Thanks for youre advice guys, always helps. Think i'll prob go for a 15deg short 14ply, then shape as required. Deffo give them a ring before i purchase. Quote
Krazy Kiter Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 if your thinking about shaping it get the thicker option, you can always use a jigsaw to make it lighter/more flexiable. Quote
redmark Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 at 16 stone plus i would go for the 15 ply especially if you are going to shape it better safe than sorry if you get the 14 and shape it and it becomes to flexy then you are stuffed so 15 i would say Quote
sista Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 yes, I'd also reco you the 15ply if you're going to shape it. p.s.: choose the shape wisely good luck and happy landings! Quote
Guest Nathaniel Marc Fuller Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Can you guys put some pics of shaped decks so i can get some ideas? Quote
sista Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 here's a suggestion: http://www.anarkite.de/pics/mitshape01.jpg http://www.bilderhoster.at/upload/hdfga1289907160.gif shape plan http://www.bilderhoster.at/upload/gipyr1289906928.png The holes at the feet postitions reduce the weight, and additonally improve the flex a little bite more. Just add them when you think it's still to stiff for you. Once you've used the saw, it's hard to undo it Consider your final shape good and try to get a little help from people in your area who have already shaped a deck I'm sure there are some around... Cheers sista Quote

Afro1599968737 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 you can hide holes under griptape. if you take off too much and it gets too flexy, you can bolt a strip of trampa or carbon material under the grab handle to make the deck stiffer again. Quote

Twisted Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) Looking forward to seeing the finished project. A couple of pointers for shaping. Cover the area to be shaped in masking tape, items like plates and waste paper bins are great for gettin smooth and equal curves when sketching out your design and just free hand from there, make sure you use a multi speed jigsaw on the slowest speed, otherwise the board over heats and welds itself back together, an electric sander and dremel (sander) help smooth it off and can easily remove any excess, then finish by hand with medium then fine sand paper for a smooth finish. One major thing which is a pain but worth the hassle, keep fitting the trucks and wheels on and testing the flex whilst shaping, its easy to get a bit too carried away when cutting! Guest Nathaniel Marc Fuller Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Looks tidy.... Hope you got a steady hand ; ) Im goint to ride it for a while just to get used to it. Then the shaping will begin using a very measured approach! Quote
eazyrider Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Yep take it easy with the trimming I did mine whilst drunk at a kite meet and ended up having to move the trucks in by 15mm to stop it being so flexible... Quote
