Scribbler88 Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Found a perfect little kite spot near Hereford (which looked livestock free), and got the Venom flying nicely. Few minutes later, we get charged by a herd of cows. Couldn't work out if they hated the kite, or wanted to get near it, but me and my wife just managed to leg it over the gate to the field before the kite got trampled. Amazingly tricky to run fast whilst wrestling a fully inflated arc and 25m of kite lines. http://www.aj-concepts.net/internet_uploads/cows.jpg Anyone else had any close calls with cows? I would have expected them to keep their distance, not run towards us (at speed). I don't normally mind cows too much, but that was pretty scary. (The photo is over the gate, just as they lost interest in us, and I started trying to untangle a ball of kite lines...) Scribbler Quote
Jerry_R Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Should always check if you can fly on a site before you start, farmland is generally a no no as it is after all private land unless you get permisssion from farmer first. Quote
Scribbler88 Posted July 18, 2010 Author Report Posted July 18, 2010 Oh - I wouldn't do that. It was on a common, and it's usually livestock free (directed to it by a local). Didn't even see the cows until they thundered up. Quote
Jay586 Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I grew up on a farm and was chased by cattle from an early age. They will charge if there are calves with them to protect them or if they are young, it's more nosiness with the youngsters. Quote
festa Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 usually they come running over looking for food as the only human contact is wth the guy who feeds and milks them Quote

I got charged by a heard of bulls whilst out with my dog, they wasn't interested in us they wanted to kill my dog. I had found a large stick and run towards them which sort of stopped the charge, my mate grabbed her chain and I had to guard them as we rushed to the gate. Funny know but not at the time. Quote
