dreadycraig Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Just got me one of these as they are flogging them half price for a couple of weeks (think 02 have had trouble flogging them) It's brilliant! It is marketed as a calender, but it also does media streaming. now I can get my music/vids etc whilst i'm in the kitchen If you like your gadgets have a look at them. be quick though as they go back up to £100 soon. Also for the geeks out there apparently you can hack it to make it run linux Quote
Disco_Bison Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Kinda cool, but I have a 99p calendar and an iPhone to listen to music in the bath and anywhere else. It might be more useful if it wasn't just me, the wife and a 1 year old. For families with older kids I can see it being useful Quote
angus8ken Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 looks very cool - especially if hacked for running ubuntu! im on the edge of buying one, trying to think of something awesome to do with it... Quote
oc1rob Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 is it wired only or does it do wifi too?? Quote
dreadycraig Posted April 6, 2010 Author Report Posted April 6, 2010 is it wired only or does it do wifi too?? yes it does wifi too. Quote
oc1rob Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 has anybody hacked one yet?? Been scanning the 'hackthejoggler' blog and while a number of people claim to have done something with both Linux and Android it all seems to go a bit cold after statements like yep we have managed to get a loader on to it...... What would be really cool is if you could get XMBC to load on it, that would do the full gui and everything and be able to make easy use of the touchscreen!!!! All you would need then is a small browser add in and you are away!!! Quote
angus8ken Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) rob - i found this while browsing Hack the ... its still a little light of info but looks promising. the weird thing to me is that they are running ubuntu netbook edition which i thought was only for atom based machines which sounds overkill for this device. i am currently playing with wee embedded linux devices reading data form weather stations and uploading it to a website and am planning to try the same on the joggler but with a nice UI. have ordered 1 so i can try it out edit - looks like it is running an atom processor and a dual core to boot... not bad at all for 50 quid provided i can get it running! smoo Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Also O2 have launched a joggler app store. It says that Youtube and Google maps will be available, so maybe a web browser as well... I'm very tempted, though one minus point is it does not have batteries. Quote
oc1rob Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 well I've taken a flyer... always a sucker for a gadget me!!! Quote
stueyboy Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 That might go well with my Amahi Home server and stream all my movies to various places... Quote
Birdman Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Is there any monthly fee, or is it a PAYG type thing? Quote
dreadycraig Posted April 8, 2010 Author Report Posted April 8, 2010 Is there any monthly fee, or is it a PAYG type thing? Mine has no contract or PAYG. It has 50 free texts a month to my o2 phone to remind me of stuff. you can pay for more texts, i think it can be either payg or ~£7 bolt on for an existing mobile contract I'm hoping they get some more stuff in the app store soon, on a dozen things there so far. The music streaming is pretty cool, but sometimes it can be a little slow opening folders to play music. I'm still happy for £50 Quote
oc1rob Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Mine arrived yesterday... it a propper nice piece of hardware, but apps are seriously limited, downloaded all of them just because they are free.... but suspect there will be several delitions!!! Its a shame that I cant map it to my NAS directly.. still trying to sort out getting it to talk to my pc, and I'm hoping that by sharing the NAS through there it will reach my libraries. this has serious potential for being Ipad..ish for £50 If someone could hack it to give 8 or so basic functions on either linux or android it would be a killer bit of kit. Functions: Picture player Movie player Music Player Browser Web Radio YouTube access Clock/alarm all using the touch screen only once loaded. Quote
dreadycraig Posted April 8, 2010 Author Report Posted April 8, 2010 @oc1rob lots of info here: joggler Quote
Birdman Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Just ordered one, sucker for a gadget me. Quote
oc1rob Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Dready thanks for that link. That site is going nuts with developments. Android should be ideal when they crack that one. Quote
dreadycraig Posted April 23, 2010 Author Report Posted April 23, 2010 Hack the ... Also found this Quote
oc1rob Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) I'm holding out messing with mine till the gurus get it sorted either as ubuntu or android fully sorted with full touch screen nav. My pref would be android with full acess to the apps store. Edited April 24, 2010 by oc1rob Quote
Guest Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 There is a Netbook Linux full touchscreen, i have openpeaked my one to get other apps on, I.e facebook and such, not bad for pirce and fucnitionality. Quote
angus8ken Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) running ubuntu netbook remix on mine. seems pretty sluggish - not sure if thats at least in part due to my usb stick edit - im now running standard ubuntu using the image posted on http://www.joggler.info/forum/index.php Seems to run a bit nicer and although the interface maybe isnt as suitable for the touchscreen intereface as the netbook remix i have to say i prefer it Edited April 25, 2010 by angus8ken Quote
