ricoghardforth Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Just moved to a new work place south east side of Rotherham. Looking for some where to go out in my lunch break to fly and try my new board. Looking at google maps for parks and playing fields I've found Herringthorpe Playing Fields which is close. Any one know if its ok to fly power kites and kiteboard. Or if any one else knows any where else not to far away. I live below Tadcaster and normally travel to York knavesmire. Quote
eazyrider Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Herringthorpe is from memory ok to fly on, I was asked by the council up there to help with an extreme sports day that was being organised up there. Contact Mr.M on here or racekites.com as its his local spot and I know he started of flying there, there was some confusion a couple of years back but he will give you the full low down on it all. toska Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Herringthorpe is fine. Might also want to chat to a few of the SKF - http://www.sheffieldkitefliers.co.uk Quote
jugglerjon Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Herringthorpe is a wicked field on its day. Avoid in southwesterlies. Strange turbulence and rotors occur. Led to many a nasty spanking/lofting. Best direction. Northerly or Southerly. Anything with an east is usually pretty good too. Its plenty big enough but a few things to look out for: footballers, rugby footballers, dogs and their crap, chavs and their crap and in the summer cricketers. See ya on thee one day. Quote
