FluffyFizzer Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Humour me! Can I "glue" back on my perfectly good valves back onto my bladder with silicon sealant??? I Have a '04 Slingshot, which I need to sell....dig her out of the shed, to blow up and take pictures to put on line and just stays limp. On further inspection, valve glue has given up on main inlet valve and about 3 of the valves that feed the struts off of the leading edge. Can I get "proper" glue for this, as I had used inner tube repair glue, but alas to no avail, so it seems! Some one at work, mentioned using silicon sealant, as it is silicon based like the bladder , right? If not, I'm looking at about 5 new stick on valves but these are anywhere from $14.95 to $25.......my concern is the kite isn't worth that much, and buying $100 worth of valves for a kite that can be worth no more than $200 at the out side....just to sell it , doesn't seem financially viable? Jev Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 You can use the glue in the kite repair kit that comes with most kites. Just clean out the area that you need to glue and glue the valve back on. Make sure you put some pressure on it while it is drying. Workd fine for me. If you don't have any glue ask a kite mate one of em should have it, or go to the beach and ask around. I would assume many would keep the repair kit in the kite bag or car. That should be easy to fix. Regarding silicon sealant?? Not sure and I wouoldn't try it simply because it is a sealant and not a glue, I assume it wouldn't be adhesive enough. Quote

JKS Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Bugger buying new valves man !! unless they are leaking from the plug. Every time I have had a valve peel from the bladder I remove it, clean it up and use Bostik. I have never had a problem .... some of the valves have been repaired for over 2 years. It's the poo Best bet is to put something heavy over the valve during stick time. I use a stack of 5" grinding disks and then put a brick or 2 over that. They have exactly the right hole and a curved shape so any excess glue does not cause your bladder to stick to whatever you are using as a press. Your Stratco's , Big W 's, Chip as chips, K-mart and Bunnings (big and small).....turns out Bunnings are not stocking Bostik any more......so if you see any bag it. ...however saying that , that's where I found some on special, trying to off load it I guess. At the princely sum of $1.98 a tube..... ... I bought 5 tubes....it better be as good as you JKS or I may have to go in to a pool repair business! Just thought I'd fill you in with the latest...I'm just about to neck a cuppa and start on the repair....will let you know how I go! Cheers for now Ade \m/ Quote

Give him a holler .... he might have some in stock As I said before ... be SUPER carefull that you dont use too much. Talced up the bladder before I put it in , eased it around the corners, pulling on the string. Testament to the old adage "If you have to ask your self the question, you already know the answer".... "I wander if I should check the struts?" Guess what, same problem! So I'm back on the production line, but I am well confident with the sticking power of this "pool repair" glue. SoutherlyBuster Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Any one tried this "Fix It Once Pool Repair Adhesive" to repair wet suits? Sounds like it is flexible enough and is water tight. I've mentioned before that I have used super glue but it is a bit stiff. Sure it says for PVC so not sure how it would react with neoprene. Quote

elenahusky Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 The best thing to do if one of your valves is leaking is to completely remove it. To do this, you need some hot water, usually straight out of the faucet is hot enough. Dip the valve into the hot water for 5 seconds and it should peel away easily. If not, try a little hotter water, not so hot to burn you though. If hot water doesn't work, then carefully cut it off and get a stick on replacement valve. Quote
