cookie121 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 RANT/ The demise of two major brands is a sign that they really have got it wrong! It is a sad enditment on this government and its former Leader who undoubtedly saw it coming and bolted through the preverbiable stable door leaving the caretaker to clean up. His legacy whilst his slumbers in inobscurity, funny how he hasn't risin above the parapit recently to explain this seemingly inextricable downturn, is mass job losses, crumbling capitalism and social decline. And still they think waving a trillion pound credit card at the problem will make it dissappear, they think that by giving us tax cuts now will get us spending again, when all know next year taxes will rise expedentially to pay off this miss management of the world economy. There is a reason Islamic Terrorist aren't bombing us anymore, why destroy only our homes when economic terroism is a far easier way to attack all that is unholy in their eyes!! Undermine our financial stability and the ability to wage war on its people becomes harder to substantiate. END OF RANT/ Quote
cookie121 Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 I will reserve comment until this time next year! Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 At least dictionaries should be cheap in Woolies now. ;) Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Anyway, it's Maggie and co. you need to blame really for falling for all that American economist ********. Making us buy what we already own and pinning the booming wealth on the falsely inflated value of a few bricks. Quote
cookie121 Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 OK OK so I should have spell checked pre rant, my apologies! Quote

windy Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 It's the end of the world as we know it!!!!!!!!!! Quote
cookie121 Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 True, but it was this government that did not practice prudence and encouraged us to establish long lines of debt to feed the economy and therefore the war effort!! Quote
windy Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 What are we going to do!! No more Wimbush Tennis Rackets. Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 My old and much hated 'Winfield' football boots from school days (oh, the shame!) will be worth a fortune now on the bay! Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Where's your tears for MFI, eh? In centuries to come, archaeologists will unearth myriad little plastic pegs, with no sign of the reconstituted sawdust from whence they came, and baffle at their purpose. Quote
windy Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 My old and much hated 'Winfield' football boots from school days (oh, the shame!) will be worth a fortune now on the bay! SEE!! i've already forgotten the name of their brand name name. Quote

In centuries to come, archaeologists will unearth myriad little plastic pegs, with no sign of the reconstitued sawdust from whence they came, and baffle at their purpose. Woolworths and me have history. One of my firstest ever memories is of me in the massive Woollies on New Street in Brum, buying a Winchester style cap rifle. (with glinty glinty sheriff's badge) Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Plastic spurs! Did you have plastic spurs too?! MFI: I have flashbacks of sitting not doing my homework at a wonky rickety chipboard desk and a wardrobe that went all wonky if you opened both doors at the same time. Mind you, that could easily have been my dad's freeform interpretation of the clear as mud instructions... Quote
Batho_777 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Great government policy.....lower the VAT to 15% and we all spend money that we havnt got. Who will spend more on non-essential items as a result of the 2.5% cut in VAT? If we follow the normal 10 year cycle of recession we are overdue for this one. For me, this thread started with two UK brands. Woolworths and MFI who no longer have a unique offering or selling point. Both companies have lost there way and unfortunatly for all their employees (20,000??)are unlikely to exist in 2009. Somerfield have entered the same arena by taking on Kwik Save and never integrating the businesses. Co-op have now taken on the business in a bargain fire sale. 2009 is going to be tough Just my random thoughts Quote
cookie121 Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 My guess is Tesco will inheret the world and we will know nothing else. http://www.economicshelp.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/for_b3ta_tesco_value_droid.jpg http://www.liverpooltimes.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/tesco-poster.jpg Quote
Steve1599968621 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Actually, Batho has a good point. If Woolies and MFI had made steps to not be quite so **** and sell stuff that people wanted, they might have been able to keep playing at shops. When was the last time anyone here went to either? abbe89 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 I just mentioned this to a friend....her reaction...... 'Oh god no! where will i get cheap pic'n'mix from now?!' actually made me LOL Quote
