kraftyone Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Ok, so finally got round to getting a winter suit (ripcurl core fireskin - fits like a very toasty glove), and picked up some cheap decathlon gloves. What do people recommend bootwise. Are neoprene socks any good? how about a hood, are the thin 2/3mm ones any good or is it worth getting a thicker one? Quote
sidmaniac Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 o'neill superfreak seem pretty good to me and many others. You can loose a bit of feeling in your feet with any boots with strap closures. I don't just sensitivity with the board but actual numbing sensation in the feet, I can't explain it, it must be a circulation thing. Quote
gazxtreme Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 I hate boots and hold out as long as possible but last year on recommendation bought some Atan boots that are very light and don't give you the sensation of surfing in wellies. I did a search and found a write up here http://www.seaspritesports.com/windsurfing-atan.php Quote
Andy C Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Atan boots are the bogs dollocks. I found I needed a size smaller than my normal shoe size for a perfect fit though. I use Atan Mistral boots. Can't recommend them enough. Quote
alastairy2k Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 2mm neoprene socks, about as close as you can get to bare feet. Quote
scillonian Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 yep agree: i use 2mm neoprene socks as you don't loose any feel of the board. i get through a couple of pairs through the winter but at £11 not the end of the world just got some off e bay ready for dec/jan Quote
alastairy2k Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 man up agree, i try to avoid anything on my feet however cold it gets but when needs must, 2mm neoprene socks are plenty warm enough Quote
wenglish Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 lol i wear a dry suite with built in socks and then slap some surf shoes over those but the shoes are there for protection more than anything else. that and i also suffer with raynaud's, my dad is exsactly the same we both have primary raynaud's, but it effects my toes and his fingers mostly. i try not to drink anything with cafine in it before going out and i should realy stop smokeing not just for my lungs but the nicotine effects the bodys ability to retain heat (i dont know how but was told by my doc along with the way it does it but again i forgot lol) but still HTFU rich Quote

kevob Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 neoprene soxs for me as well with big holes in the bottom boots are ok for hanging round the beach but when the board goes on forget it Quote

Mad-Fly Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 The mystic boots our worth looking at too i,ve been useing the type with the split toe entry very warm and comfy:) http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/mauimagicmysticbladewetsuitboot.htm Quote
Team Hog Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 What is the benefit of the camel toe guys, please? Quote
Andy C Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 I think the idea is it stops your feet from slipping around in them. Has split toe ones before I got the Atan boots, they were OK but nowhere near as comfy or snug fitting. Quote
KiteItRight Posted November 8, 2008 Report Posted November 8, 2008 go Mystic Boots.. Dogs spuds Quote
Mad-Fly Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 What is the benefit of the camel toe guys, please? It basically stops the boot twisting of the front of your foot when full of water or wiping out:D How,s your back bud. Quote

si-fly Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Sounds like these boots are pretty thin to give the feel. Can you walk over stones with them or are the soles too thin for protection? Si. Quote
