blade Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Evening Just moved to cardiff area last weekend, and looking for where all the local people go for kitesurfing? I'm new to kitesurfing, had some lessons in aberdovey a couple of weekends ago and just brought my own kit last week (9m atom and delta 139). I've done quite a bit of land based stuff in the past so have all the kite skills, just lack any board skills! From my 2 day lessons, got to a point where i get up and ride 10m or so, then fall off again or run out of power. So just need loads of practice to stay up with falling off! Just wondering where the best places are to go and not to go, and if anyone else is in the same position as me, and want to meet up as i dont want to go out on my own! cheers Quote
wenglish Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 in prothcawl there is coney and rest bay, moveing down teh coast you then have aberavon which faces south west, lots fof poeple there and where im normally found though i dont go on the water im happy to help launch land and keep an eye out on the ater incase somehting goes wrong and people need help. the further down you have swansea bay this faces easy to south east. then you have the gower with beaches that will offer you eastright through to nw, east is oxwitch though swansea bay is better if you wan flat water as its closer and genrally quite flat. then llangennith which works in west through to s and then for the nw winds you have broughton. if your about tomorrow i will be at aberavon all day there is a good community about and lots of people fly at all the beaches, mark from blast will be able to give you better advice on water conditions and such but as i said there are genrally a few people about at most spots at teh weekend with llangennith beaing very popular on the gower. parking there is in hill end carpark and costs something like £3, parking at coney can be done on the fron by the sea wall and at rest bay its in teh carpark but there is a fee (carnt remember how much it is) at broughton they sometimes charge depending on the day (usually charge in peak season at teh weekend) if you want to aviod families with kids tehn aberavon broughtons and swansea are genrally quite quiet with llangennith and porthcawl beaing very buisy with surfers and holliday makers , especailly in the summer. hope this helps a bt stu Quote

craptiger Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Hi Blade, I'm at exactly the same stage as you are so possibly not the best person to have around in case you get in trouble, but better than nothing I s'pose!! Am in Bristol so not too far away, about an hour from porthcawl. I'd recommend weston super mare for learning if you're not too bothered about a bit of mud. Only been to porthcawl once and the waves kind of ruined it for me, whereas at weston I've found the sea much kinder. Would be well up for hooking up sometime though and sharing what little experience we have! Quote

blade Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 i might be around on tuesday after work as well, maybe 4ish at porthcawl depending on wind and tide, not sure yet. How many hours either side of high tide at porthcawl cant you ride? Fairy: was that you and another guy down at coney on sat? i couldnt really tell what kite it was, they was both a dark brown or blackish colour i think, the weather was pretty bad down there! Should be around porthcawl in the next week or so, might see some of guys around. Quote
